modifying a CA bell housing

This might be a stupid question, but better safe than sorry. Can I cut these two tabs off without weakening the bell housing? They're not attached to anything and space is tight...

Yes, it won't weaken anything. I'm not even sure why you have those. I don't think those are on my transmission....

It came with my swap 8 years ago off of eBay. God knows where it's been. :)

That is weird. I don't think any of mine have that either. FWD bellhousing on a RWD box? Is that even possible?

Just realized that my bellhousing has the same bits. Maybe for a different block/engine?

It definitely bolts up to the CA in a RWD configuration. They kind of look like they were put there for a starter, but there's no bulge behind them. Strange.

All the RWD CA transmissions I have seen have them. Though it is possible that the casting carried over from the S12 where they may have served a purpose until Nissan removed them from later model transmissions.
