qsiguy wrote:Very cool Nick. I missed this post earlier. I suspect you won't notice any adverse effects from the smaller plenum volume particularly since you are using FI. Without a baseline you'll never know anyway. As long as it makes good numbers and runs ok at WOT who cares?

What have you been doing for the last 2 weeks? Running off a generator?
Thanks Shane. I agree with you that it won't affect me at all, and I really don't think it'll be noticable running atmo - I was going to do a dyno in atmo mode so we can compare to other folks runs at an aggregate - not very precise, but it'll give us an idea anyway on plenum volume effect.

Yes I've been running 24x7 (except for oil changes every 50 hours) on a small 6KW generator (the only thing I could find after the hurricane) and I can tell you at $60/day in gas I spent more on gas than the generator itself. I thought I had found a 30kw diesel at a fair price, but that fell through, so now that the power is back on I'm back in the hunt for a good deal as there's no pressure to get it "now".

Anyway, I'm going to be jumping back on the project this week so I can get some work done on it.....

Nick.

Call Mazworx. I've spoken to Mark and he gave me a price, but I am not in a position to tell you, only the vendor is. If the product/service is not on their website, their phone number is.

I believe he's questioning if the inside of the plenum is polished.Polished would make the air - fuel mixture move smother and quicker in to the cylinders. hince giving a tad bit more HP. Right??

Ah ok I follow you - I suppose that would be true in theory but I think I'm with Ben on the can-o-worms aspect of this. Not sure how much of a benefit that would provide, especially running forced induction like I will be. I guess if I can eliminate all the other bottlenecks in the induction track I could extrudehone the thing, but I think I'm pretty far away from that juncture

Thanks for the clarification....

Nick.

Not necessarily... go take a look at a golf ball some time, it's dimpled so as to create an 'air bearing' effect, reducing its friction as it flies through the air and allowing it greater speed & distance.

The inside surface of ports and runners etc are best to be slightly rough, for the same reason that golf balls are dimpled.

Yeah those do look pretty nice. They even have Q45 TB flanges. I have never welded aluminum though, so I don't know if I would want to experiment for the first time on something like an intake manifold

Perhaps, but the inside of the OEM plenum is plenty large for adequate airflow in stock tune.

The main advantage I would see is longer life free from deposit accumulation and deposit build-up.

Polished outside is cosmetic, polished inside is functional.
