Hello everyone.

This is my first post to this discussion board, but it looks like a great place to learn about the 350Z. I just purchased a 2006 350Z Roadster from a US dealer and am in the process of bringing it to Canada. It should be shipped sometime next week to the borer crossing where I pick it up and bring it across. I seem to have all of the details/paperwork in hand, but am wondering what modifications besides the daytime running lights might be required. Thought I’d check into this prior to the inspection form coming from the Registrar of Imported Vehicles to be prepared.

seems like something you should ask your local inspector, I know they do require proof all recals were done prior to importing

The inspection department (CDN Tire) can't give specifics on each make and model. Once the car is in for inspection they'll have a check list they go through to ensure it is in compliance with CDN requirements. A list of required modifications will come from the RIV once I bring the car into Canada, but that can take a week or so after the car arrives. I was hoping to get a jump on the modifications so that I can register the car sooner than later.

Thanks for your reply.

I imported my wife's Armada about a year and a half ago.

If I remember correctly the most important thing you will to do to make sure US customs is notified 72 hours prior to exporting. If not they will not let you leave the country with the car.

Once you get by US customs you really only need the Bill of sale so that Canada Customs can collect the GST. Plus you have to pay for the RIV kit for about $200.

If you are driving it, make sure you have some sort of temporary insurance on the vehicle. I also had a temporary NY state plate.

Once you go to CDN Tire you will need a Recall Clearance letter and most likely the only mod you will need is daytime running lights. I didnt need an emmissions test nor a safety since my car was brand new. I am not sure if you will need that since yours is an 06. My guess is you will need the safety.

You have 45 days to get this done although i would do it right away if at all possible. The easiest way to do it is to get your inspection, daytime running lights and safey (if necc) done then go directly to the ministry of transportation - pay the pst and get you plates and stickers. RIV will send you a sticker to place on the vehicle once they recieve confirmation from canadian tire and approve your recall clearance letter.

If you want to get a jump on it, call RIV and tell them your insurance company will not insure the vehicle until it is plated. Then tell them you managed to get them to hold coverage for 48hours and need the list of mods faxed either to you or your local Canadian tire. IF you push them hard enough they will send it probably the same day.

I brought my wifes car in on a Thurs and had it plated by the end of the day on Friday.

By the way, i am looking at upgrading my 1990 300ZX to a 06 or 07 roadster. if you dont mind me asking how much did you pay? What model? Nav? How many miles are on it? From what I have found an06 Roadster Touring (No Nav) with low milage are 31K+ US. AT least that is what they are listed for on autoTrader.com. I was mostly wondering if the dealers will negotiate and if so how much room do they have to play with. I was hoping to pay 28-29K.
