What modifications will keep my car from passing smog? I'm hearing cams will make my car not pass smog, and then I read that JWT cams will pass smog. What about JWT ECU? I hear you'll fail smog with an ECU upgrade. I know HS headers will fail smog, but I am Technoman posted up a write up how to pass smog with HS headers. Intake and Exhaust I know will pass smog tests. Soo, what modifications am I limited to? I'm in New Jersey by the way and smog tests are strict here. Theres always paying the guy extra money to pass, but I don't know anyone that smog tests and don't think a stranger will pass me for extra money.

every state is diff, but in cali where we get beat like redheaded step children, anything is technically illegal, but they mainly get mad over noise-more from cops though. as far as smog goes, if they think u have a cat and u pass emissions and its not too loud, we're ok. go to a smog place, or call

You can swap in the 95-96 ECU. You will need to change some pins and swap out the O2 sensor for a different one and use an adapter to fit it. JWT recommends using the 96 ECU on a 97-98 as it's a bit easier, but either can be done.

Someone is offering a 96 ecu for my 98 240sx and they had it on a 98 240sx. They said to do everything you said, so I guess it will work. I can only install intake, and probably exhaust. Do you think I'm skilled enough to swap my ecu, sensor and rewire 3 wires on the harness? If I mess something up, what's the worst that can happen? Maybe i'll pay a nissan mechanic to install it if I run into difficulties. When he said rewire 3 wires, did he mean the wires on the sensor, or the wires on the plug?

He said this JWT ECU, and JWT cams will pass smog.

uhhh... why? What's with the ignorant remark?

There are thousands, no millions of nissan owners out there, and 90% can't even change their own oil. Maybe if you had a late 240sx, and everythings working great you'd be a little worried about butchering the wire harness, especially if you've never done it before.

whats to bother? the 90% of morons who cant work on their cars, prolly own altimas and maximas and a few z's. but to own a sports car, yuo should know whats going on. swapping the ecu is like 5 times easier than changing the oil, and it has nothing to do with the wiring harness, 3 wires? how hard is that...apply yourself young grasshopper.
