Just to add to what Seth said... here's what I look for when evaluating staffers (in NO particular order):
Writing skills - If you write like my daughter's texts, forget it.
Personality - Can't define it, but I know it when I see it. Example: Jesda has it. Nala does not.
Honesty - No one expects you to be an expert on every vehicle, or every component of a vehicle. I'd rather one of our staffers answer a question with, "I'm not certain - Let me find you someone who's an expert on that." rather than making up something and losing credibility.
Thick skin - If you get butthurt easily, or if your self-esteem is fragile, keep walking. People like Charlie and RedCoupe will eat you alive, and I won't bail you out.
Tech knowledge - If you have some skills, such as design, coding, blogging, CSS, editing, graphics, SEO, or other web tech skills, that's worth something.
Time - We dont ask for much, but this is a commitment. We're not small-time anymore, and my pet peeve is Moderators who only pop in every 4 days. You'll need to check the Mod forum daily, and altho we try to keep things light, sometimes we all team up to hammer out big projects. Nothing worse than having 50 people on staff, and we can't find anyone online.
Accesibility - Must have AIM. It's the quickest method I've found for getting info back & forth on a project or task. We use it a lot.
I think that's it! Good luck to everyone. I also want to add that you;re all certifiably insane for wanting anything at all to do with running this place. It's a thankless job, I'm a jerk, the Administrators are lazy, and the moderator forum is boring and smells like feet.
