well, for my graduation present my parants bought me a 95 s14 that had been converted. i've had the car for 4 weeks and i've already spent about 3,000 on it and there jsut doesn't seem to be an end in sight. all i think about now is what else i can throw in there. my next big buys when i get the money will be cams, bigger turbo, head gasket, ported tb and intake manifold, turbo manifold. this **** is expensive but for some reason i am convinced is is more important then paying for college right now.....anyone else have this problem??

Same thing happened to me when I got my S13. I've been spendign all my saved up money for college on it and ended up joining the army to pay for college. So I'll go active for two years, then that'll pay for the next four years of college and leave me plenty of money to toy with my car. I think the same stuff, I'm constantly looking up all sorts of crazy stuff. Not essentially stuff I'll do anytime soon but drawing up diagrams kills time. I'm sure in the end if I spent money on college I could get even more to work on my car but for some reason, that has about the same effect on me as people telling me that drinking less than studying will make me do better in life.

You guys should of applied for a lot of private scholarships, I got so much that I pretty much got a free ride plus extra money after every semester. I got about $1,200 bucks about. But I spent every penny I make on my car. It's like you said, an addiction, you just got to have it, like if you were addicted to drugs or something, you'll find anything and everything, sell it, then buy what you need with it.

yea, the scholorship thing IS a good idea. i did apply for fafsa or what ever it is and they paid for a full 4 semisters. but all the grants don't last for ever you gotta remember that college is 2-6 years long........and that gets to be REAL expenise combined with the income i allot for the nissan......college will pay off though, "you get out of school what you put into it"

Definately, one thing about the private scholarships though, some you have to do a lot of things such as volunteer, do papers, keep a certain grade. All very tough to keep but like you said, you get out of school what you put into it.

hehe, yeah work your *** off and find a school that has a full ride program, then get other scholarships too. I have like $7000 extra a year because of all the sscholarships, saving most of it for med school though. I think its good to have a balance..if you ahve to pay for school and you're sinking money into into your car instead of paying tuition, thats not good..

When it comes down to it, during the summer I thought about my options. I could fill out paper work during my senior year to get free money. Or I could take my chances of getting shot at. Yes, I was probably a little dazed, but I need to lose the weight so I figure the army will do plenty for me. Plus I've always been big on blowing **** up and I'm finally getting to a place where they're letting me have my fun instead of having to run like hell and not getting to watch the fun. My only worry is I crash my car...again...for the cough*7th time*cough... Yeah, I had an awesome first year of learning how to drive. Good thing it was just a ****ty 96 corolla and I haven't hurt my 240.

Hey thats cool and all, but you're not putting this all on a credit card right?

You know alot of guys here end up selling their cars or motors and stuff because they need money for college...Its really a all-too-familiar story around here on the NICO marketplace forum.

So be careful, OK?

Credit cards rock, I just give them a piece of plastic and my autograph and they give me stuff. I'm sure I'll find a downside to them eventually, but I'll enjoy it until then.

I just turned 18 and thinking about getting a nice shiny plastic card. Figure I should charge up the 2grand i got saved and pay it off the day after i buy the stuff. So I can build my credit up then get about another 1g to finish my project.

Yeah that's all I'm doing, buying cheap stuff and paying it off on time. What I said before was how my brother explained credit cards to me. His idea was that if he bought stuff like CDs they'd never take it back, then he'd just delcare bankruptcy and start again. As it stands, he's about $10k in debt working his *** off at ****ty jobs and trying to get a second bs degree so he can get a decent job. Hence why I joined the army, so I won't have to take out any loans.

credit cards are the devil. thats all i can say. since junior year i have been working my *** off and saving for college because the parants (who by the way could definitally pay for college and it would NOT affect their savings, income, or credit, they jsut want me to figure it out ) but anyway i had saved up about 5k. i still own my old chevy blazer which i want to keep for the winters here, but if worse comes to worse......thats going not the 240. and my job kinda kicks ***, KINDA. its a good job for kids and i will be getting promoted here in the summer. i don't know if anyone has a quiktrip around them but its the greatest place on earth. and yes, i'm not gonna keep moding as much till the summer and i have saved another 2g's for the 5th semister

HA! I said the same thing when I was 18, I spent the 2k on my credit card, the 2k I had, I spent that also after I spent the 2k on my credit card. Not cool, way too tempting. But I learned my lesson since then... well sort of.

Man, I can relate to a bunch of stuff in this thread! Private scholarships are really nifty, but you gotta plan ahead for them. A word of advice for any people in high school, start doing stuff like volunteer work as soon as possible if you want any scholarships. Unfortunatly for me, the year I graduated our county had a few genius mother teresas come through and about 5 kids got nearly all the private awards. I can remember my first job just a few years ago... Kind of embarassing really, I made $5.50 an hour and after to buy my own lunch at work and gas for my car didn't gross very much. The managers took advantage of us too, they would make us work huge double-shifts on busy days, then would give us less hours than usual the rest of the days so we didn't get any overtime. Oh well, those were the good( ) old days. Credit can be fun, but can also mess ya up bigtime, be careful to anyone looking into it. My rule of thumb is not to spend anything you don't have, although, that is kinda the point of credit cards... Probably also the reason my 240 is basically stock and will stay that way for a few more years.

I like buying stuff for my car too.. but I never get in over my head.

My advice is to always have a plan. Make sure you know what you want from your car, and a reasonable way to get you there. Make some sort of payment plan for yourself and a projected time frame in which you will have enough money to complete the project...

I always get stuff as cheap as possible. I dont work that much, but I am patient. Wait for sales. Get stuff from the classifieds. Be smart. Be patient.

That is all.

Paying things off immediately does NOT build your credit, it does not positively impact your credit whatsoever.

What helps your credit is carrying a balance, there has to be a RECORD of your borrowing money and paying it back ON TIME, which is what credit is. If you pay it off immediately and do not carry a balance, there is no record of your having borrowed money at all.

So if you want to create good credit, do the following (IF have RESTRAINT):

-Get a couple of cars with the highest limits possible, your total credit limit (combined limits of cards) minus what you've charged (combined balances) is your AVAILABLE credit. This is a big deal for your credit report. High limits + small balance is VERY good.

-Do not switch cards often, when you cancel a card, that part of your credit history disappears. Get like two, and stick with them.

-Carry a balance on each, a SMALL balance, and make the payments every month on time or early. This will build your credit score.

I would advise never using the credit cards for ANYTHING having to do with your car, it's a black hole. Maybe gas/oil changes or something, but certainly not parts.

my job offers me 1000 tuition rembursement a semister as long as i mantain a 2.5 gpa, which is not that hard to get. this is a nice bonus and which is why i can tolerate making only 9 an hour. besides cost of living out here in kansas isn't that high. other thing instead of getting a credit card i will be taking a student loan of about a few thousand and pay that back as i go through school. the good thing about this is i will build my credit and have a MUCH lower intrest rate. also, your credit score is based on a number of things, such as making car payments morage payments and jsut doing all sorts of things on time.
