I've decided to have my heads modified to accept the ARP head studs that I have. Yes, the CA18's headbolt chambers are too small to accomodate a sock larger than 12mm and the ARP hardware is 14mm. I have some fresh (unused) stock head bolts that I am willing to let go for around $30. They will come in a plastic wrapper with an anti-seize compond on their threads. This is a great price for anyone doing a new headgasket or a major clean-up.

I knew exactly what you meant, but the answer is "No" . The area where the stock head bolts drop through is beefed-up by aluminum from the lifter housings. It has to be modified for proper fitment.

We've had this discussion many months ago, but even with the corrected part #s, the area still needs to be dremelled-out to fit a 14mm socket in the galleys where the headbolts go.

ahhhh yes, I see what you mean now. I was thinking you meant that the studs would somehow hit something.

That makes perfect sense, that you couldn't get a socket on there if even the nut...

well that's easy to do, I gots teh dremel.. just do it before getting the sucker cleaned up haha

The only problem is one of my heads are already assembled and I would hate for my friends to start mismatching the shims that are under the solid lifters. Oh well, we'll see.

Well,

To put it bluntly, I was dead-@$$ wrong about the 14mm ARP nut. It's not a 14mm, but actually a half inch 12 point nut. I installed them on my built motor and they went in drama-free; tight, but drama-free. So it's official, the part #s that were given is actually a plug and play deal for CA18 owners, but please keep it on the low-low (it's our little secret);) :fruit And remember, the fruit is watching you:D
