I'm at the very begining of my project, I've been presented with different options and nobody mentioned working on the KA24DE that's already on my car. As I've searched I've encountered various KA engines producing well over 400 hp and some even in the 500 hp range. I know the KA engine produces a decent amount of torque. So, let's say we put the same amount of $$, (forged internals, turbo, intercooler, engine management, etc..), on two engines, one's a KA24DE"T" and the other one is a SR20DET. Which of this engines will give me the best hp and torque figures?

Engine management will be fully programable and tuned by expert hands.

Thanks for your responses.

Why not an RB25 or RB26?

KA and SR are not the only motors

Might want to rebuild that ka.

You are going to end up spending more for the ka. Only way it could be about the same cost was if your ka had 60k or less or u didnt rebuild. Other wise its going to cost more.

The RB series engine is one of my top possibilities, I'm just brainstorming and I dont want to leave anything out, I want to be sure what engine will serve better it's purpose. I have a friend that is running an RB25DET on his car and it's doing about 586 rwhp, but my main concern with the RB engine is the avaliability of replacement parts.

Ive seen many KA owners here with hp figures around the 400 zone, my goal is to get around 480-550 whp, that's why I mentioned that either engine will be built from the bottom up, I heard that the pistons give up after 400 hp.

If my friend had a RB25det that made the same power or less than I wanted, I would definitely get the same engine. You can just do what he did.

If you want 400 or more in a street car you need more than 2.4 liters in my opnion.

The KA24 is a great engine because of the torque, its a beast when given boost. And Replacement parts are not a problem.

The KA like everyone is saying is good due to torque, responsiveness and cheaper replacement parts. What useage are you going for (i.e. drift, drag, road race/auto-X)? I would recommend the RB Series for anything 450+ if you're looking to have that many ponies in a streetable fashion. I have seen 2 N/A KAs blow due to bearing failure, one fully built (Rods, pistons, crank, cams, etc.) and the other slightly modded with I/H/E, pulleys, Z32 MAF, and upgraded radiator. My group was in staunch support of the KA, until the demise of two in our ranks. However, neither was boosted, but I can only think more undue strain will be placed upon that platform with forced induction. Just my humble thoughts...

HP: (for streetability)

KA 200 - 300SR 300 - 400RB 400 - your wildest dreams

*good luck*

Is this the first car with that much power your going to build? If so, get used to 300 whp first, and go from there. However, how you get there is totally up to you. Do you like to rev to make power? Like the idea of a stout factory turbocharged engine? Tons of aftermarket support? Go SR. Do you like gobs of torque and don't feel like doing an engine swap? KA is your freind.
