I remember reading somewhere that there is a hole on the BOV mounting surface that can be blocked to hold boost a little better. Is this true?? I read it somewhere and now i cant find it. if i remember right, it is there so when the BOV hits, it would be quiter and less abrupt. I went ahead and made a new gasket which covers this up, but wont be able to see what happens until my new turbo is bolted up.

I don't know how well that gasket will cover that hole up. Supposedly, the BOV's are the same as the 1G DSM's. If that's the case, head over to dsmtuners and check out their tech articles on how to mod it. There are a couple different ways to do it.

i blocked the hole by basically, doubling the thickness over that area so when it is torqued, it will flush and block that hole. I will try crushing it as well. thanks

Blocking the hole will allow it to hold more boost but that hole is there for a reason. From the reading on DSM boards that I have done, that hole allows a small amount of air to continually pass through to speed up the time it takes to open it. Blocking off this hole will slow the reaction time of the bov and expose the turbo to compressor surge.

Are you actually having a problem with the BOV holding boost or is this just to say that you have done it? If you are committed to running over 17psi where the mitsu will begin to leak slightly, you can modify the bov so that his hole stays open for normal driving and plugs for a spirited run. I will try to find you a writeup.

Here is a link about it, the original thread is halfway good, but the comment made later is what I am talking about:

"Another option is to tap the hole you drilled and put a threaded pipe in the hole so you can attach a boost line from the upper IC pipe to the BOV for normal daily driving to avoid compressor surge, and then only run with that passage vented to atmosphere when you are in need of high boost like when running at a track."My friend who recently totalled his GSX was planning on doing this and hooking the added boost line to a valve controlled by his DSM link system.

Heres a little modification that will make the valve hold more boost by changing it to full blow off!

1st. Take the valve out of the car.2nd. Take it apart from its flange by removing the 3 phillips head bolts.

3rd. Find the orifice on the inner part of the valve and, using J-B weld cap off the hole so no more boost goes into the bottom of the diaphragm.

4th.Wait until the J-B Weld dries up and then Drill a hole about 3 mm on the side of the blow off ( the side that had the hole in it)

And now you are ready to install it back. This nod shold help you hold boost a lot better, since the boost cannot longer go up that passage, the blow off will stay shut untill theres vacumm on the top of the valve!

note: this will change the valve from by-pass to blow-off, and if you don't mind compressor surge, you can also crush the top some.Enjoy....

If you want a spare 1g bov to try modding on so you dont bust your only one, my friend who crashed his DSM had two, I can check for you if he has either left. He was asking $40 each and you could probably pick it up.

wow the ix valve is the old sr20 valve...... Anyways, I just blocked my bleed hole and am running an ssqv down the line, must say it sounds interesting. I figured that bleed hole thing out by just plying with the bov and blowing on it LOL.
