Around 9am, I drove by one stationed on the Magnolia on-ramp onto the 22 east bound.

Anyone know what these things are doing beside wasting our tax money? Hopefully I won't get a letter in the mail box anytime soon..

They analyse your emissions and take a picture of your license plate. As I understand it, right now, they are sending "fix it" letters to the owners of the vehicles, not tickets. The bad news is that you may have been flagged a gross polluter, which means you'll be subject to yearly emission (smog)inspections. Let us know.

This was discussed on a local forum. From the general consensus of ppl who followed this more closely, right now (i.e. it can change later, or maybe already has), this is only for data gathering - no tickets yet.

If you have a car that is grossly polluting: you should be able to see these coming up from a good distance -> usually lots of cones, then if you look ahead, you will see the machine -> once you get closer, swap to neutral and cruise by. Done & done.

Wow, that is almost right next to my house.

Not like i'm heavily modded, just intake/exhaust with a stock cat still.

just my luck

I drove by another one yesterday getting on the 405N at Beach blvd around 7:30am. No signs this time, just orange cones.

Hopefully my cat does what it's suppose to do.

I will keep y'all posted if I get a letter but most likely not because the address is not current and I don't want to waste time at the dmv trying to change it.
