:rotfl I was arranging to take my Versa in for its first service and asked the service tech if the dealership carried Mobil 1. It does not. He said the shop uses regular oil or blends because the full synthetics are "too slick" for Nissan motors--they are not best (good?) for them. I was astounded, to say the least. But then again . . . What say you?

This is a repost--original post apears elsewhere--my error. Sorry.

There's nothing wrong with Mobil 1 in Nissan motors. Its good stuff. The guy you talked to is knowledge deprived and needs some education. In other words, somebody school that fool.

"Too slick" = "We are too cheap to use full synthetic and should be raped by Razi the Cyborg".

I've never heard of a dealership that won't use whatever oil the customer requests, if the customer insists firmly enough. They might charge you a per-bottle surcharge if they have to go get it somewhere, but they have never turned me down if I've asked. They of course try to use their "house" oil because they buy it in bulk and pay less for it, therefore increasing their profit margin.

although full synthetic in a versa does seem like overkill to me, unless your just looking to stretch you oil changes intervals.

The only thing i've ever heard remotely close to that is that our QX4 was burning oil and Infiniti told us it was because we were using synthetic oil in it. After switching to a blend it never had the issue again but other than that I think that's a load of crap, i've always used full synthetic in my vehicles and haven't had any issues. Of course I don't get my oil changed at the dealership either so i've never been told I shouldn't use synthetic other than that one time, I usually take mine to Valvoline Instant Oil Change here or I change it myself.

Both our Nissan and Infiniti dealers carry a s*** ton of Mobil one at any given time. Regular oil changes are a synthetic blend, Wile the full synthetic is Mobil one. The only other oil we use is ester oil and its $$$$

A professional model who jokes on a car forum and changes her own oil? That sound you're hearing is a hundred Nico leg-humpers grabbing some kleenex and locking the door.

Bring a bag of sand and tell him to blend it with Mobil 1.

I have heard of not using synthetics when dealing with engines that haven't been broken in yet (not enough miles on the engine) but every shop should carry a synthetic blend. It leads to a higher profit margin at the end of the day.

The only logic that might make sense, is that the shop is at a NIssan dealership, and then only deal with new cars so using a synthetic on a new cars isn't suggested so they don't carry them? It's a stretch.

I've found that Mobil 1 wasn't slick enough in my cars. I use Soul Glow now.

And you let this guy work on your car? He probably drained the transmission fluid and added double the oil it's supposed to have. I had my oil changed out of town one time and I checked it out of curiosity and it was just as dirty looking as it was before the oil change.

Ugh, please stop saying "Full Synthetic", that is a marketing term.

Alot of you are actually using GIII+ oils which are based off crude oil and highly modified. These can be classified as "Full Synthetics".

Now, if you had a PAO or ester base that would be a different story...

there are very few "full synthetics" that are FULLY synthetic... do some research, you'll find that there are very few brands that carry FULLY synthetic oils.... Mobil 1 is not one of them.....

p.s. the best oil for nissan owners is astroglide :)
