I beleive, last month, Tampa had urged me to try Mobil 1 EP Synthetic in my next oil change. I did! Prior to this, I used the regular Mobil 1 Synthetic.

My verdict is that Mobil 1 EP Synthetic seems to have an edge over the regular Mobil 1 Synthetic on two factors I have observed, although one of the factors will need more precise equipment to confirm.

1. Warm up early in the morning with Mobil EP 1 Synthetic is faster than with regular Mobil 1 Synthetic by about 1 - 2 minutes.

2. Warm up, after the car has been driven at least 3 hours prior, is actually twice as fast for Mobil EP 1 Synthetic than with regular Mobil 1 Synthetic. You literally don't have to wait, except you want your transmission to warm up as well.

3. It would appear that Mobil EP 1 Synthetic is a better dissipator of heat than the regular Mobil 1 Synthetic. This will need some more sophisticated equipment in order to confirm. I maybe experiencing some placebo effect here.

My rule of thumb in checking the heat being built up by the G is placing your hand close to your drivers side tire without touching the tire, to see how much engine is leaving from the side. But first, touch the tires and the rotor to make sure thay are not too hot. I have used this technique when I used to change my oil with blend, and then to Mobil 1 Synthetic, and now to Mobil EP 1 Sythnetic, and the heat dissipation have gotten better each time. And I suspect these qualities and chrateristics will be great/excellent for protecting the front and rear oil seals and bearings over time, and in the long run.

These are just my observations and my 2 cents. Maybe this is why Mobil EP 1 Synthetic is more expensive than regular Mobil 1 Synthetic. Even if you don't agree witht the temperature part of my observation, since that portion needs advanced equipment to test, I guarantee the warm up part will impress you when you switch to Mobil EP 1 Synthetic.

I recommend Royal Purple synthetic...you can get it at summit racing parts warehouses. They have a few locations...even one in Florida off I75, exit 216.

You haven't led me wrong so far on the right mods for our car. In the next few weeks, i will be using Ryal purple to put any thoughts of it to rest. i will report back on what I observe.

All things equal, I would think that a faster warm up time would infer that the oil is absorbing heat faster. I doubt the difference in frictional properties would be enough to cause any non-instrument observations, especially without controlled conditions. Regardless, I wanna say, the the biggest difference between the two oils was a particular chemical. One had more of it which tends to extend the life of your bearings, but wears your catalytic converter faster. The standard Mobil1 had less of this substance to keep the EPA happy. I think it might have been sulfur. Someone may have a link to an article about it somewhere around here. Perhaps Nate?

Oh and you know it really doesn't matter what oil you use!

I have a buddy with a 2004 Ford F-150 4.6 V8.

He has 295k miles on it and he uses dyno oil and changes it ever 10k miles!

The truck still runs like new!

And In all the miles he has done only a few things

In the last 10k miles he for the first time changed the coil packs and plugs, then he changed all 8 fuel injectors. oh and the normal tires every 60k miles and brakes every 50-60k... He also just did his breaks (I did them) and replaced rotors and pads First set of rotors lasted 285k miles and he is not easy on his breaks! OH and he has had 4 a/c blower motors put in!

All in all I would say not bad for almost 300k miles!

He plans to keep the truck until it has 500k mile or becomes unreliable!
