Well, as many of you know, I've been speaking of doing an ATF exchange on my car, but I never had the time. Well, after speaking with a guy at a local shop here, I finally found someone who I could trust my car with. I went and purchased 16qts of Mobil 1 aft...(expensive ), purchased the trans kit and was off to the shop.

Before I brought it there, I told him to purge the system of the dino aft because I didn't want the cheap stuff mixing with luxury . Well, I think that rubbed him the wrong way (didn't matter), but I stood there and made sure they pressure drained all of the dino aft out before they started while in the mean time, my car was running with the BG Quick Clean. Once the dino aft was out, I told them to pour 15qts in and save one incase it needed to be topped off.

Well, once everything was hooked up, the process didn't take very long at all! Maybe 15mins max. Maybe it was because they turned the vacuum on the BG system itself. It was crazy how you see your old fluid running thru one tube and the clean being push in the other tube at the same time. The guy was surprised of the color of the fluid coming out because it wasn't that dirty. I told him that I take car of my car. It was a deep burgundy after about apprx 40-50k highway miles. He stated that most cars who come in fluid is close to black ! It was nice how the BG system has a level to where it lets you know that the transmission is full. Well, we let the car run for awhile to warm up the fluid, check it, and the level was perfect ! I only felt kind of bad because I knew some of my M1 ATF was still in the machine .

Honestly, after driving I noticed just a small difference in performance. It did shift a little smoother. I can't complain because that means that my transmission was performing well before the snythetic exchange. Maybe once I drive it around later today, then I can judge if it's really a difference. Difference or not, I happy that I have an outstanding fluid in my car that can easily go another 30k and bring me to 200k on original transmission !! Oh, the guy who did the exchange told me that BG now has it's own snythetic atf. Have anyone else heard of that?

P.S......It only cost me $79.99 for service ($20 discount for bring my own aft), $10 for BG Quick Clean which came $94! Once I receive my "gov't check" in May, I plan on giving my motor the full tune up (spark plugs, check/replace hoses & belts, fix the driver's side VC gasket) and not have to worry about anything else major for miles to come...

Ahhhhhh, I had them to put the filter in after the flush. Didn't make sense to put it in first. I did state that in my post that I purchased the kit, but forgot to state when they changed it. Back to an original question, have anyone else heard of BG having its own synthetic aft fluid?

I haven't seen it mentioned here before now. BG Synthetic ATF is at the bottom of their transmission page and looks like it's a new product. Nice container sizes too, close to the right amount for an exchange from dino to synthetic.

Great! Nothing like the real thing with all M1, but 6 oz. of Lube Guard Red is also recommended. I think you got a great deal for the service.

Presume you have a B&M auxiliary cooler?

Usually, 14 qts. is sufficient as the total capacity without cooler is just less than 11 qts.

Now go look at your PS. And enjoy your rejuvenated RE4!

Now how about all those seals blowing out with the new ATF?

The shop I went to didn't sell the LG Red. Where can I purchase it at? Is it an OTC product I can pick up from NAPA, AAP, or Autozone? B&M cooler? No I don't have that yet....Actually I never heard of it. Everything on my car is stock, no mods. It just shows how well I've kept up with the car. PS Fluid will be done next Friday. Guy told me he would flush it for me for $39!! I'm trying to get everying done with that guy so I can enjoy the cheap prices . I plan on buying some Valvoline MaxLife atf to put in there because that's a great fluid. Max or anyone else, do you know how many qts. it takes to flush out the PS system. I just need to know how many to bring.
maxnix wrote:There is always a simpler, cheaper way that is not as effective as doing it correctly. Allow for 1 gallon for the continuous extraction and refill method. More for the low pressure system flush. If you use M1 ATF, be sure to sue a seal conditioner like a BG shop will.

Just found this doing my search. Well 1 gallon is a bit much. I think that I will go ahead and use the BG PS liquid along with their conditioners.

Hell, I might drive to Tulsa for those prices!

LG Red is OTC.

Read Skibane's excelent post on auxiliary ATF coolers and temperature drop in series and parallel. Other discussions about mounting (someone like BullitAndy used a Ford one). Pictures of mounted coolers under my name in the Gallery.

I have been running the BG syn trans. fluid for 20k miles w/8oz. L.G. red, a Magnifine inline filter, & a BM cooler mounted between rad & cond. Shifts smooth as silk. Even the torque converter lock-up is now barely noticible. I am the only one who knows when it happens. Probably because it was so noticible before flush.

My local shop is pretty up-to-date with their BG services and one they offer is a power steering flush and re-fill with BG brand synthetic power steering fluid. I just had them do my wife's Honda van. This was a little pricey - about $75. However, other than ordering Royal Purple synthetic PS fluid, this BG product is the only synthetic power steering fluid I've seen, and I've looked.

I recently bought a case of Royal Purple PSF to have them do my Q's with.

I believe also that Valvoline makes a SynPower PS fluid.

***UPDATE*** Man, I can truly tell a big difference now since I've been driving my car Saturday. It shifts soooo smooth now. Some time I don't even feel it shifting ! I have to look over at my RPM to see what gear that I'm in. Man, this is a great fluid! I will purchase LG Red from Autozone tomorrow. Found it for $9.99.

Everyone, thxs for the follow up. I will research more about the transmission cooler and Andy, I will shoot you an e-mail Monday.

I think auxiliary ATF coolers on FGY33 are even more important then on late model G50. Install it before you add LG Red, then you can add it and M1 ATF to fill.

I do not think many of our F50 brethern are installing the auxiliary ATF coolers and I wonder how they will fair?
