My friend just upgraded his MkIII Supra intercooler and he no longer has a need for his stock one. He said he will sell it to me for $50 and it is in really good condition, but what I need to know is how efficient will this thing be? I am guessing it is much better than the stock postage stamp, but how much more. Any Ideas how much boost I will be able to run through this bad boy?

I don't know if it makes any difference, but his supra is a 90 or a 91 ( I think)

i would say break out the measuring tape and give some dimensions(length, width,depth, and how many rows) . that would probably be a good start for the people who know this stuff on here(i dont know intercoolers that well).

1.4 kilo om one before I popped the head gasket on my old L20ET. The CT26 on the Supra can't hurt it so I doubt the SR turbo will jam it up.

the thing is a flaming POS, has a pressure drop of like 7psi @ 14psi of boost (that's through the whole sustem in a MKIII but you get the point) From a test I saw online with a bunch of junkyard IC's that finished pretty much dead last. Don't waste your time or money.

ive read you can boost 14 psi on them. There is a place by me, that sells them for 100 bucks, but says you really need to pound the hell out of the car to get it in. I believe the shop, but dont know if they actually did any tests or just picked that number because it sounds good.

we played with my buddy's MKIII supra and saw 7psi. The DSM guys that I know are all running MKIV intercoolers, those work nice, but it's a sidemount.

oh I found some flow rates for the different supra intercoolers. How do these compare with the stock side mount?

Stock 93.5 Supra TT side mount Intercooler flows 251.0 CFM at, 20 inch's of H20 pressure. *MAX rear wheel HP on DYNOJET, 401 {JZA-80 TT} Stock 1989 MA-71 Intercooler flows 169.0 CFM at, 20 inches' H20 pressure *MAX rear wheel HP on DYNOJET, 338 {SUPRA GTE}

jeebus, that MKIV one will flow some freakin air!

7psi drop maybe across the entire system, pipes, intake manifold ect. I've seen a similar comparison about junkyard intercoolers, and its about middle of the pack, ahead of quite a few smaller units, including the thin core volvos.

The mk3 FMIC has a 3 psi drop, its efficency is not bad. Its not too thick,but has a lot of frontal area. I'm putting one in my SR20 car, a little bit of extra piping since its in and out are on the same side. I think its the best cheap-o factory intercooler too use for basic SR and CA applications.

Its been done before.
