Mixing EGRC- BPT valves ?

A great resource for Nissan Sentra, Infiniti G20, 200sx, Pulsar, NX1600, NX2000, Tsuru, Primera and Sunny owners.

hello everyone I have a stupid question. I've searched everywhere and no one seems to have an answer yet. I have a 97 b14 sentra with the GA16DE that's due for emissions testing. The EGRC-BPT valve is leaking, so the EGR valve never gets the vacuum needed to open, sending the NOx emissions through the roof. I went to wrecking yards and all the other bpt valves are in worse shape than mine, however I found a brand new valve installed on a 98 altima with the KA24 engine. Visually, the valves are identical. Same mouting bolt locations, both top hoses are at a 90 degree angle with one hose connecting the bottom of the valve to the EGR valve. My question is, will it work? I don't know if these valves are different internally, since opening it up would destroy it. The part number on the valve I pulled off the altima is AT175-15. The one thats on my car is unreadable. Thanks for your time!

Matt

The valves may be the same... you want to find one with the same configuration and the same vacuum pressure numbers. That 175/15 is a measurement, not a part number. I don't know what the correct numbers are for your car, and I looked around in your FSM a while, but didn't find that detail. I would guess they would be different for a 2.4 liter and a 1.6 liter engine.

How did you test the leaking? The valve is supposed to leak vacuum to/ from the atmosphere through that foam mesh covered area when there is insufficient vacuum on the exhaust side of the egr valve... or something similar to that. I thought mine was leaking and went through the junkyards. Turns out it was functioning correctly with what I thought was a leak and my replacement was doing the same thing. At least I have a backup valve now.

So, the EGR Solenoid valve was the culprit on my car. Have you checked that? It's the computer controlled one and you can give it 12v off the battery while checking the path of air travel through it's hoses and listening for a click of the valve moving.
