Hi,

Thanks for reading this. But I'm getting mixed message about the RB20DET swap into the S13. I've done tons of research already and this is what I found.

1. With McKinney motor mounts or TopHatPerformance, you won't need downpipe. Is this true?

2. You can use stock radiator and fan. Is this true?

3. Don't really need fuel pump because RB20DET injector size in the same as KA. Is this true?

4. I should be okay with the RB20DET swap as long as I do: motor mounts, waterpump, drive belts, new clutch, resurface flywheel, timing belt, and timing tensioner and idle pulley.

Can I get away without changing the oil pump? Basically do what step # 4 says and I can drive the car without issues?

Thanks a lot!

stock ka radiator isn't big enough, it may work, for a while but you will have heat problems. Stock fuel pump is about maxed out with a rb20 for light driving unmodded but isnt enough flow for taking it all out or modding. Just get the walbaro and nismo fpr.

2) Cpt_Impossible i ran my stock radiator for over a year with my rb25 and only had cooling issues while on track. worked fine for normal and "spirited" driving. but its highly recommended you upgrade to a nice aluminum. C&R dual pass = the ****. and odds are you will need good pusher fans.

3) even if the injectors were the same size, you now have 6 of them. think about it...you need a fuel pump. walboro 255lph.

4) its an engine swap. there is no way to know what is going to be OK and what isnt. its like rolling the dice. what you have listed will HELP but if the engine is a POS to begin with, its gonna be a POS for a long time (that is NOT a RB20 joke. it means if the engine wasnt taken care of and has alot of potential issues its gonna be a headache)

1- Can do either or use the R32 X-member.As far as downpipe (turbo outlet) goes, I really couldn't tell you, some people say no. But on my car the stock downpipe (turbo outlet) wouldn't fit, I'm using the Top Hat mounts. But then again I don't know if my chassis is majorly tweaked.Car seems to drive straight, only driven it a couple times.

Just use the rad from your clip its bigger than the KA rad. Get some pusher fans, pullers (most of them) dont fit.

I would change the pump, I got mine for $80 plus 10 shipping. Came with everything.

I would chage the oil pump along with everything else you have mentioned, if your gonna do it, do it right and the 1st time.

thanks a lot. I don't think there's anything else to the swap right? I think I'd covered everything besides the wiring?

Thanks. Oh yeah. It's okay to have an RB20DET without the intercooler?

Thanks

I've got the stock sidemount and some of the piping in my garage. It's dirty, but shouldn't have any leaks or problems.

make me an offer and its yours..

Carl,

So you are saying that I could save myself $250 and not buy a new oil pump! Lest I was to perform a complete tear down and have a collar installed? This is for a motor that is and should remain stock for quite some time and not see redline often.

I don't know how much they go for, but what is it worth to you? Please be reasonable cause I'm trying to fit in my budget to do this car.

Thanks!
