Anyone else find it hard to believe that this thing was around for 21 years? I used to work with a woman who had an early 90s model. Damn thing had an abundance of electrical problems and a serious lack of horsepower. She ended up spending a thousand dollars trying to fix it and ultimately sold it for way less than she paid for it. :tisk:

Twenty-one years is a good production run for any automotive nameplate, and changing times have forced Mitsubishi to end production of the popular coupe. The Eclipse name will be retired at the end of the 2012 model year

Let's see..... 1969 to 2011...... That's 43 years! Take that, Toyota! :p

Not many cars out there with a longer continuous production run.

I can sum up the Eclipse in 2 words: Buh Bye!

Actually the last generation Eclipse was a nice looking car but all testosterone was removed from it so it was not a particularly sporty car to drive. I think Mitsubishi got the first generation right, especially the AWD turbo version, but then it slowly devolved into a chick mobile. Sad.

There's never been an Eclipse I would drive without being paid for it. 1st gens were decent looking, but Mitsu's obsession with FWD/AWD kept them from being interesting to me. If I'm going to put up with FWD, I'd like some practicality in exchange (Maxima, or even Diamante). If I'm stuck with 2 doors and 2.5 seats, I'd better get a proper drivetrain to counter.

Then there are the realiability issues, and the fact that from the 2nd gen onward, the Eclipse got progressively more ugly. Third gens are retinal hazards, and fourth gens are just a joke.

Oh, and it's 2011. Iron doesn't belong in V6 blocks. Especially not when it's hanging out in front of the front axle.

I had a 1st gen Eclipse and it was the biggest POS i've ever owned. I have never had any interest in a Mitsubishi product again either, YES INCLUDING THE EVO. Mitsubishi has always been a huge fail to me, the 3000GT VR4 and the EVO were cool cars but they're still junk in my eyes.

^^I agree with you for the most part.

My 3G has been alright to me, but it's not really done anything to really make me want to buy another Mitsubishi. I mean it's not a bad car or anything--it does have its fair share of merits--but for every thing I can pick out that I like about it, I can find at least one thing that bugs me.

At least it looks good :gotme

The Eclipse was once a fun but flawed car. Eventually it lost the fun while remaining flawed.

They still make those god awful cars? Huh. I wasn't even aware. I assumed they killed the Eclipse years ago...
