I can get a 14b Turbo for $100 - a friend is upgrading his eclipse turbo. Is the flow characteristics of this turbo comparable to the T3 from a Z31 for the KA? Also for a manifold, what kind of flange is needed to bolt this up and where can I get it made? Lastly, for all custom turbo apps, - can the stock manifold be modifed to fit a turbo and how much would this cost, ballpark? Also, are these turbos internally wastegated?

you should be able to tell by looking at it if it is internally wastegated. also the runners on the stock exhaust manifold look like they would be too long, so the turbo woudl site way too low or hit the hood if you flipped it around. Why not try it? Not that hard to remove exhaust manifold.well the z31 turbo is for a 3.0 and the 14b turb is for a 2.0 correct? I'm betting that if your friend needed to upgradethen it may be too small for your engine. I am kinda in the same boat. I have a t3 turbo that I think will only be good to get me around 210rwhp.

I'll take that t3 of your hands in the summer, if it's in ok condition and around 100 bucks :) I only need 200 WHP, and I think I can push that out of a t3 with 5-10psi...or at least around there somewhere.

The flange is T25, personally i think the turbo is too small for a KA, way too small. The Z31 turbo would be better.

Yes the 14B turbos and internally wastegated.

I agree the 14B is too small for a KA. It's just slightly bigger than a T25. It is the stock turbos used on the 1st gen 4G63 eclipses/talons. Here is a compressor map of one if you are interested...

I've got a TD05-12B on my car (with a 12A comp wheel). Works great. Boosting just under 8psi at the moment with a small SMIC (off a 1g DSM). Very linear pull. The 14B is similar to a low A/R T3. I'll probably be "upgrading" to one some time over summer.

FWIW: Volvo TD05's have T3-flange exhaust housings. You can use one to fit any TD05 turbo onto a T3 flange (with some very simple machining in some cases).

The flange on the 14B is a Mitsu 6cm.

It is internally gated.
