Missing some convenience from other automobiles

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

I love the ES35 I miss some of the other Convenience from other cars I have or had. Tobad we can't hve it all.
I like to see a power plug in the back of the console for the rear seats. My BMW had this.
I like a audio jack there too.
I like a heated steering wheel. BMW had this.
I like Auto sensing wipers. my Saabs and BMW had this.
I also like that the key FOB would open and close all windows and sunroof. My Saab's had this.
It would be nice to have the heat seat to be auto too. My Saab's had this.
Plus a built in ATM None of my cars had this. lol Of course free money.
Now I'm dreaming.

Your key fob will open all the windows and sunroof, just hold down the unlock button. The audio jack is in the center console, not sure what good it would do in the back. What is it tht needs power in your back seat? Just wondering. There is another power plug in the center console.

Heated steering wheel and auto wipers would indeed be very nice.

I know you can open the front window. but you cant open and close every thing. Saab did it all for years untill GM one motors day took the anti pinch out of the rear. They said it was not safe to have this feature. They said it was unsafe. Silly American way of thinking. I talked to them on the phone and told them "Why don't you just put Crank windows back in." Then you would not have to worry about some idiot putting windows up on there dog or kid with out looking at the car.
The reasaon for a power plug at the back of con\sole would be for long trip whin kids what to play a movie or game or both. Otherwisw you have to cram all those plugs in your console.

When I said auto plug I ment 8mm jack for head phones so I don't have to listen to the disney channel for 500 miles. lol

I agree that some of those features would be nice, but it looks like the EX wasn't designed to be a family oriented vehicle. To me it looks like it was intended for an audience who do not have children in their household. It's funny though because my wife and I have young children and we own an EX :) .

For the power socket, you can buy an extension and run it to the back seat. I actually have a 12V DC splitter with long power cord that would reach the back, but I haven't used it yet in the EX. I know that this solution is somewhat inconvenient and looks cheesy, but it should work fine if you only use it on long trips. The other alternative is to install one in the back. Any automotive stereo shop should be able to do it; but I don't know if its worth the $$.

Now if you'd like those little extra "rear passenger" features standard, you would probably have little trouble finding them in a mid or full size suv/crossover, or in a minivan. They're more likely to be used as people haulers (especially on longer trips) and have additional features to accommodate more than just the people in the front seat.

Hey, at least the EX has climate control vents for those in the back seat :) .

You can pick up a power point at Radio Shack for around 10 bucks. I've installed them in the dash of my snowmobiles. If you find a good spot and drill carefully it should look like it was OEM. Just be careful about drill bit size. The ones I installed gave dimensions in inches and millimeters, and the sizes didn't match up. The trickiest part may be running the wires unseen to a power source. If you try it let us know how it comes out.

Its interesting what you miss from other cars , I find the center console is crammed with Convenience 12v supply , stereo jack , Ipod cable.
anyway my beef is .. can't Close windows, only open them . I don't think opening the windows when you unlock is as usefull (never used the feature , well maybe by accident) as closing them .
With my previous car (MB E320) I always held the lock button to close windows/sunroof because I always seem to forget to close the dam roof ..

rant over.

Just checked, you can close the windows from the outside of the car without starting it. Just take the physical key out of your fob, insert it into the drivers side lock and turn it towards the front of the car.

I use the remote windows down on hot summer days to cool the car before I get to it and let some of the heat out.

If anyone decides to install extra 12 V outlets, I have posted technical diagrams of where to get the 12 V hot-in-run wire. It's under my radar detector install how-to post.
