Nissan does not mfg any of it's radios, for that matter neither does any other automaker. All Nissan can do is forward the 'request' to the mfg and perhaps it can be incorporated into a future model.
As for 'upgrading' your headunit, it may not be possible. The changes you are requesting likely require a firmware change in the nav unit itself. The ability to update firmware all depends if the mfg designed the capabilities into the unit.
I realize this doesn't help you much, but it does demonstrate why aftermarket nav units are a better choice sometimes. They offer more features, are usually more user friendly, and can be easily upgraded. I have owned several Garmin GPS units (Dakota hiking GPS, and Nuvi car nav units) and I must say they are far more capable than most OEM nav systems.
