I have an issue with the factory Navigation unit in our 2011 Rogue. When my wife and I travel we like to go different ghost towns wherever we go. The problem I have is that when I enter the name of the town and it is in the database, you have the option of entering either a category or name. Under category according to the Navigation manual, page 4-20 there should be a "City Centre" option which we don't have on our unit. So you need a name or address to go there of which we don't have. I've had GPS's for almost 10 years and have never seen one where you had to enter an exact destination just to get there. The thing is great for everything else but this one issue really annoys me. I filed this with Nissan who acknowledged the issue but didn't have a fix when I spoke with them.

sckeith,

Nissan does not mfg any of it's radios, for that matter neither does any other automaker. All Nissan can do is forward the 'request' to the mfg and perhaps it can be incorporated into a future model.

As for 'upgrading' your headunit, it may not be possible. The changes you are requesting likely require a firmware change in the nav unit itself. The ability to update firmware all depends if the mfg designed the capabilities into the unit.

I realize this doesn't help you much, but it does demonstrate why aftermarket nav units are a better choice sometimes. They offer more features, are usually more user friendly, and can be easily upgraded. I have owned several Garmin GPS units (Dakota hiking GPS, and Nuvi car nav units) and I must say they are far more capable than most OEM nav systems.

Thanks for the reply

I hear what you're saying, I just think it is a basic function of a GPS, and the option is shown in the manual. I'll be keeping my Garmin's I guess but I was hoping to have a clean dash.

Thanks

Steve
