missing coolant tank

when i bought this maxima 93' a month ago it had NO coolant expansion tank. instead, the hose that goes out from the radiator is purposely blocked at its end. is there a reason why someone would do that? except for a cracked tank, maybe there's some other problem they tried to avoid.

today i had one of the hoses from the radiator to the engine burst, and now im looking to get a tank as soon as possible, but im wondering if thats only going to solve part of the problem.

any ideas are appreciated

Yeah, you're probably right that it was just a shoddy repair job when the reservoir needed replacing. I can't think of any GOOD reason anyone would do that. I'd just replace the reservoir and see what happens.

Also, make sure your radiator vent cap is the correct weight.

Thanks for the reply. I ordered a tank online already, and fixed the hose in the mean time. Hope its gonna be simple fix... If i discover any problem after i install the tank I'll keep you informed.
