My sr cuts out with a huge missfire at anything above .5bar of boost. when this happen it puffs out large black smoke clouds. This happens regardless of throttle or rpm. It also smokes when im at a stop idling.

current mods:-sohc ka maf-q45 ignitor-ebay fmic kit-rb20(1st gen dsm)bov recirc'd-gutted cat-3" catback

tests already done:-TPS reads .46v closed and 3.9v full throttle, when its unplugged the engine barely runs-MAF reads .8v at idle and ~2v@~3000rpm, no change when unplugged-ECU light is always on-2/4 coilpack bolts are stripped so they dont really stay in 100%

when I took a co-worker home from work one day it was running the same but from his apartment to my house I could stay at full boost and it would not missfire or hesitate at all until high rpm. this was along with 2 huge boost leaks which are now fixed

The only thing I can think of is that the coils not being completely bolted down is causing this but they stay down pretty good so I really am lost.

First thing I would do is drill out the broken bolts and make sure the coils are tight.

well I replaced the dsm bov with a blitz and re ran a bunch of hoses. I also tore apart the ecu and found a daughterboard had been installed so I switched the link from CJ2 back to CJ1..

to fix the coil issue (for now) I took some old radiator hose and cut some pieces to go between the coilpack cover and the coilpacks.

still missing when im in boost & once it gets to 0.5bar theres a big backfire with lots of pretty black smoke :\

Since you are having issues at idle, then I would vote for a vaccum leak. Listen around your engine bay at idle for any hissing noise. Also check your injector o-ring seals and all vaccum lines.

Mine is doing almost the exact same thing. I dont have a boost gauge, but the boost is run right off the wastegate. Sometimes it will run perfectly not rich or anything and other times it will puff black/brown smoke and I can barley keep it running. It is a s14 with a redtop mostly stock redtop and a s13 black top ecu in it, it seems to be really intermitenent, and when it is really bad it will get to about 4.5 to 5k rpms and begin to miss and break up really bad. I am not sure where to start? can you pull codes from a black top ecu?

I'm getting a new ecu and hoping that fixes the issues(s)
