On a buddies car about 6 months ago we installed a Mishimoto fan shroud on a Mishimoto radiator.

The design of the mounting points for the fans on the Mishimoto fan shroud had me concerned and confused since the beginning. The fact that the fans were allowed to move towards the fins on the radiator was rather strange. I thought it would be better for them to be stationary instead of moving around. Apparently they have moved around enough to penetrate the radiator core. We noticed that the coolant reservoir was low and did not know why it was slowly going down over the course of a few weeks. I decided to check the radiator and saw that it was low in there as well, we added about half a gallon of coolant in the Mishimoto radiator and decided to start the engine and check for leaks.

We were talking about it possibly being the headgasket because it was recently changed and thought it may not have sealed properly. However, when we started the car and the thermostat opened up we saw little drips coming out of the fans. We assumed it was just some coolant that we had spilled out so we dried the fans off with a towel and started it again. It was indeed leaking from somewhere, after shutting it off after a few revs we noticed a steady stream coming out of the radiator in two places right near the sharp edges of the mobile fan brackets.

I'm not sure who the program manager for this project was but the engineers need to reconsider their design.

Honestly... it's Mishimoto. I wouldn't expect any differently.

Yeah, but you think their two things combined would work out. They aren't as cheap as a lot of other companies. I wouldn't buy anything other than Koyo, however Mishimoto is a reputable company as opposed to CXRacing, Godspeed etc.

I 100% classify Mishimoto on the same level as those companies. I would never buy any of their products. But hey, to each their own, and I'm sorry to see you had problems. I have a Koyo rad and Flex a Lite fans in mine. Quality stuff.

WOW Major failure and just straight up terrible design.. :nono:

How terrible that the radiator core was punctured from the fan assemblies just moving forward and hitting against it repeatedly.. This is just complete ignorance on the side of Mishimoto's fan shroud design..

I hope some representative from Mishimoto sees this thread and contacts you because you deserve a free replacement radiator core because of their dumb fan shroud design.. It's their fault this occurred.. It definitively does NOT look like user-installation error..

I'm sorry to hear about this.. I hope something can be done for your situation. Not fair to buy a compelte package (radiator & fan shoud) from the same company and have this kind of s*** happen.. :tisk:

Exactly, they obviously did not do enough testing. I mean i just dont understand why the fans are not 100% stationary.

I wondered about this to as I have the same shroud..... I put some silicone on the slide mounts and locked them in place. Mishimoto will replace the radiator, but good luck on getting anything else

Mishimoto has great customer service and good quality products which is why i see them as such higher quality than Godspeed, CX Racing companies. I don't typically buy from low quality companies on any of the builds i do but these guys stood out above others. I have seen them chime into other threads on this forum as well as Zilvia backing up their products and answering questions.

The only reason i posted this up was to give other possible users visibility on this issue to maybe prevent it from occuring with their setups.

Mishimoto has replaced both the radiator and shroud. The new shroud is designed way better, there is no way for the fans to move into the radiator core at all! I will try to get some pictures of it when we do the install.

Everything is great now, after contacting Patrick directly we got everything resolved and i received the new radiator and fan shroud within 4-5 days.
