Misfiring KAE .. getting spark

So I was driving around with a friend of mine the other night and the car was fine. Turn it off and go see a movie, come out after a couple hours of the car sitting turn it on and the car starts misfiring. I end up pulling over into a parking lot and checking to make sure all the plugs are on tight on the distributor and one of them was a bit loose for some reason. Idle improved for a few seconds and then just went right back down to about 800 or so. The cap and rotor are both relativley new so I decided to replace the spark plugs. Go out the next day and start the car up ... running fine, no misfire, hmm odd. Drive to Napa and pick up some new plugs and wires anyways. Replaced them and the car was running fine, still having my normal idle problems but I've had them for a couple months now. So I go out about 6 hours later start the car up, starts fine let it warm up for about 10 or so mins and head out to my friends house.. drive for about 10 more minutes and bamf the misfire is back. Pull over again and 2 of the plugs are out on the distributor .. odd. So today I checked to make sure everything is getting spark fine on the distributor and they all are. Anyone have any ideas of what I should check next? ECU isn't returning any error codes.. Just the good ol '55' for everything checks out .

cliff notes: misfiring after replacing plugs and wires, getting spark fine. Cap and rotor are both relativley new as well. Misfire went away before replacing plugs and wires first and then came back later on in the day. Help?

Didn't you just say that you solved the problem? That was too damn confusing for me.

No, I said it started to misfire then stopped then started again, then stopped once again, started one more time and then went away once again. I have not yet started the car up today however to see if it's still no longer misfiring I will be compression testing later on in the day however. The parts I've replaced to try and fix this are plugs and wires so far and the cap and rotor are both relativley new (replaced this summer). I'm picking up a distributor next week from another KAE to see if that helps. I'm definitley getting spark on all 4 cylinders though I checked yesterday. Any ideas?Sorry I know it's a bit confusing to follow lol.

put the old cap,rotor back on. cheap way to check, new parts go bad too.

Timing would have an effect on all 4 cylinders though, not just one or two of them.

On a side note, compression tested today and had about 180 on all 4 cylinders so that is at least a good sign.

I was thinking about that today, though shouldn't the ECU return a code if so? Either way I have an engine I can pick parts off of so I'll swap those out as well. Cars been running pretty well today though thank god. The misfire is just horrible sounding when it occurs haha.

Dark-Hawkit seems that this problem is very old, did you finally figure out what it was? it seems that I am having this exact problem too. I thought it was kinda funny that mine started after i went to see a movie too. LOL maybe 240s dont like to be left in the parking lot of movie theaters?
