Hey guys heres the background, purchased my '01 qx4 about 3 months ago
its got 118xxx miles currently, i am the second owner and can not be 100% sure of the maintenance up to the point i bought it
First symptom, I have noticed that i have frequent 1-2 hard shifts under slow throttle/acceleration. The car will lurch forward while switching from 1st to 2nd gear about 80% of the time no matter what. If i accelerate faster (not flooring it, but say merging onto highway) the lurch is A LOT less pronounced but still prevalent. My original thoughts were a bad motor mount, or transmission problems (although the transmission grabs everytime and doesnt slip at all)
Second symptom, within the past month or so, when i start up the car and drive the throttle is not a smooth consistent transition to second gear. In first gear, the throttle noticeably hesitates then for lack of a better word corrects itself and works normal. Idle in resting position feels completely normal.
This ONLY happens when i first start up the car and drive after it has been sitting for a long time i.e.. overnight.
Throught out the rest of driving after the initial take off it is back to normal. I can stop at a red light, and proceed without the hesitation. Likewise i can turn the car off and start it back up and proceed without the hesitation.
My third symptom, was a an intermittent rough idle with engine light last week. By intermittent i mean, it was idling rough... i drove it, it stopped. It happened again the next day, i drove it a mile away, turned off the car, started it back up and it was gone.
The codes i pulled were p0306 (cylinder 6 misfire) and p1320 (ignition signal primary)
The fourth and final symptom was yesterday my car would not start. It crank for a turn or two but died and would not turn over. I needed a jump to start it up. It started up fine in the morning to get to my destination. When i reached my destination i was only there for around 10 minutes, when back to start the car up and it would not start. At the time i didnt think to check for a loose connection on the battery, i just hooked up my portable battery pack and started it up. The only other notable to mention is that i left my hazard lights on while i was inside for 10 minutes or so.
After that incident it has been fine starting back up all day yesterday and this morning i tested it, and it started up fine.
Taking the car to a mechanic hasnt been a priority because although it is my primary vehicle, i also have a much newer, less mileage vehicle i keep garaged that i can and have been driving. Ive always been the type to try and fix things myself, however i have needed guidance and a point in the right direction.
Tonight im going to try replicating the starting problem by leaving accessory lights on with the engine off, to see if at least i can isolate that problem to being the battery.
In the meantime any insight is greatly appreciated.
