OK, so this is a stereo replacement gone awry story...on a '94 J30t. It goes something like this... Using a Scoche harness I proceeding to replace the Bose with a Kenwood; in addition to the typical constant and accessory (+), the harness has a separate lead for amp turn on and power antenna as well as 2 separate ground leads. Now being the naive individual that I am, I connected these without checking the validity of scoche's color assignment. Stereo lit up (no sound, as I hadn't attached speaker leads at this point). A few minutes into chasing down speaker and amp power leads the butt-end of the new head unit starts smoking; long story short...I fried the IC in the new deck. After giving up, I replaced the Bose in its native position until I could have the new deck repaired.

Here's the problem...the power antenna doesn't work, the key-fob remotes don't work, the clock doesn't work, and the constant power to the radio is not present, as it 'forgets' the stations and what-not when the key is turned off for a while; it barely bumps the volt-meter from zero. I have appropriate current from accessory and from the deck for power antenna and amp turn on leads. Yes, I rechecked the harness at the head unit; no, there wasn't a lot of tension on the wiring; I cannot reprogram the remotes; yes (I Believe) I've checked all of the fuses...

I'm at a loss, here. Hints or strategies would be greatly appreciated. Is anyone familiar with a common circuit or module that supplies all of these?

You're constant power (usually the yellow wire on your new harness) may of been shorted during this process. Many of the accessories that you named could be on a common circuit. I do not have a wiring schematic for the J30. Tell me if your cigarette lighter still works and we can go from there.

The cigarette lighter works with the key on, but not otherwise; of course, this is how it's always worked though...

This is definitely a common circuit of sorts, I just don't know where, how, and what it all has in common.

OK, so here's the punch line...after a month or so of checking this and that. I finally started in the fuse box and put the meter on each of them one-by-one, as none were visibly damaged. You guessed it...45 min's later, the clock fuse was blown. All is well now; all that remains is my amazement that a 7.5 amp clock fuse is tied around in such a way that it could take out so many other (unrelated) circuits.Anyhow...hope this helps someone.
