Post

So, today I had about 8 hours of free time on my hands, so I decided to finally do a minor tune up on the Laurel.

Here's what I did.

Cleaned and re-gapped the plugs, cleand the tips of the coil pacs, cleaned the throttle body and cleaned out the IC pipes, cross over pipe and turbo outlet elbow. Also had to re-tighten the bolts between the turbo and the exhaust mani. They weren't loose or anything, but definately weren't tight either.

The car runs fantastic now. Hit's max boost with ease. I register 0.71 bar on the turbo timer.

Now, I ran into a few issues.

1.) IC inlet pipe had one loose hose clamp at the joint from the pipe to the IC coupling. How that worked loose, I have no idea, but it probably didn't help my boosting much...lol

2.) Plugs 1,3,4,5, and 6 all had some pretty hard core carbon build up. Number 2 was actually pretty clean. Each of the coil pack ends of the plugs had a bit of carbon on the tip. Cleaned the plugs with a wire brush (don't worry, not platinum plugs...LOL at TMS!), business end and coil pack end. Nice and clean. And also re-gapped to 1.1mm as per TMS's Skyline manual.

3.) Coil pack tips (parts attached to the springs) had some carbon on them as well, but not bad. Cleaned those off as well with a wire brush on my spark plug gapper tool. Nice little tool there, if I do say so.

4.) This I didn't notice right away, but never the less. Noticed that my T fitting on my boost gauge line had a crack. The neighbor that lent me some tools found it for me. Buzzed over to my local garage and picked up a new one. They gave me one for free....yeah for me.

All in all, the whole ordeal only took me about 2 hours. Well worth the time spent. The Laurel feels like a whole new car. She revs right up to 7k with no problem. The increased gap in the plugs idles a lot better than it did, and I don't have any poping during shifts now like I used to get from time to time.

For anyone just looking to do some basic maintenence, this is a must. The car just seems to run a whole lot smoother now. So, if it's been a while since you last changed your plugs, take them out and give em a good cleaning and do the coil pack tips too. You'll notice the difference.
