I can hear a rattling noise coming from the engine bay when it is at idle (rattles only under 1000 rpm). Once I give it some gas and get above 1000 rpm the rattling goes away. When my uncle took a look at this he said it probably is the timing chain or the timing chain guide. My car currently has 89,xxx miles and never got the timing chain serviced. Could this be the problem?

KA24E.s have a guide problem.KA24DE,s have a slap guide between the cams.Pull the valve cover and remove the two bolts securing this short guide. Reinstall the rocker cover and recheck. If the rattle is gone toss the guide in the trash. If not, toss the guide in the trash and come back to this thread.Hope this helps.
