Since I'm waiting for parts for the CA, I decided to pop the cover off this "Mines" ECU. I open it and it looks almost identical to the stock ECU I have, except for what looks like a blob on resin on one of the rom chips. Is this what it's supposed to look like? I always those these tuned ECU's have daughter boards in them.

Yep, that's a Mines ECU for ya. CA ECUs use that 128kb rom chip that Mines would replace with their chip and cover with that resin. It's a pain in the arse to remove too. The newer sr20 ECUs however do require a daughter board since the oem Fuel/Ignition blah blah is stored on the rom as part of the Microprocessor. Using the daugther board with external rom and telling the processor to use the external rom allows for the "Tuned" maps to be read on these ECUs. I've got 2 Mines ECUs here that I'm slowy massaging that epoxy stuff off.

Yep, hard as a rock but it can be removed with my "special" solution. It's safer however to remove the epoxy if the Mines ECU rom is on a daughter board like a SR20. If you try to on a CA ECU you would probably (97% sure) ruin the ECU by inadvertantly desolving the epoxy of a nearby component.
