Just got the 2.5S coupe. It has a full gas tank but says that I only have 380 miles until the tank is empty. I thought I was supposed to get something like ~550 miles b/c of good gas efficiency. Is this going to get better (higher) as I keep driving?

Give it a couple tanks if it's new. And your mileage should get better once your engine breaks in. Of course, your mileage will depend on how and where (city, hghwy) you drive.

Just to note, the estimator is for ~17 gallons of fuel, typically there's 3 gallons in 'reserve' when it blanks out.

And congrats on the new ride.

I don't think that's accurate... it's my understanding (and I may be wrong) that our tanks are 20 US gallon tanks, but only about 17.1 Imperial gallons.... there are not 3 reserve gallons of fuel in your tank.. that would give you about 120 miles of driving time AFTER you hit bone dry in your tank... the most you will EVER be able to put in your tank is ~ 17.1 gallons... again I could be wrong, but this was discussed earlier on here

I meant 'reserve' as in what fuel is left in the tank when the distance estimator blanks out (I have typically put in 18 1/x gallons after it displays "---"). I wasn't saying that when the estimator blanks to nothing the tank is empty (that would suck - I would've learned my lesson 15x over ).

same here i get about 488, but i think i get more than it estimates. Atleast i get more than it estimates for range and not mpg.

I have a 2.5 and if i let it get bone dry i can i think get 18 gallons in it

18 gallons X 3.99 gas per gallon = 71.82 i can remember paying that much in the past.

Now gas is 3.39 around here.

I got 577 miles out of about 18.5 gallons. Want to say I had about 3.5-4k miles on the car at that point.

so when the indicator says --- that means like there is 2 gallons left? I was so scared when that happened to me. I thought i was going to run out of gas :/

My computer says between 530 - 600 miles usually on a full tank.

I just drove to vegas and got 415 miles for my tank and my gauge was reading just under a quarter tank with 80 miles to go when I re-filled and I was doing 90 the hole way. But there was alot of down hill where I got to coast alot.

P.S. I have a 3.5 CVT

I've never ran mine dry before, i usually fill up with about 1/4 tank left and i usually get between 450-475 at the 1/4 mark. The comp would say i had like 50 mi left at that point but ive driven that before and the comp had the "---" and the needle was just past halfway between 1/4 and Empty...

I generally get a reading of around 450 on my 3.5...

And i disagree with that warning light - mine said that I had 50 miles left once before, and I filled up to 18 gallons. 25 mpg x 2 gallons = 50 miles...add my 18 filled and that's 20.

Usually when I fill up it says I can go 425 miles, it used to be 440. But I usually get around 430-460 miles and when I drained the tank I'm not sure of the mileage, but I know one time I filled up with around 19 gallons (75 freakin' bux!). When I went to Vegas (about 240mi away) I probably could've gotten there and back, but I filled up.

I get an average of 22.5 mpg and about 400 miles to a tank in my 3.5L, but most of my driving is short trips.

2 possibilities - 1, you still drive like a maniac. 2 - the mpg system learns your farthest runs, try taking the car and not getting gas until your fuel meter is almost on E to help the system learn how far it can go. Or you could unplug the battery to reset the memory.

What is your acceleration like? How high do you normally take the car when you get off the line?

Isnt running to empty bad for the car? I may be a knucklehead for saying that, but i thought that you would see better PERFORMANCE results on a full tank, EVEN THOUGH a 18+ gallons adds over 100lbs of weight to the car.

Am i a believer of tall tales?

I would think the car runs better on actual fuel than on fumes, but i'm just saying that when i Fill up my tank (not just put a few bucks in) i wait for it to empty out so its all fresh new gas

I have a CVT and my rpms dont go above 3k off the line, most of the time they are from 1500-2k

driving is always around 2k rpm unless i speed up to make a light or need to change lanes in a hurry

oh ya and, its not just the computer miscalculating, its doing its job, i reset the trip odometer everytime i fill up to see how many miles to a tank i get.

lol well running on fumes is another story lol...All this reminds me of that seinfeld episode where kramer takes the dealer for a ride insisting on driving the car bone dry... what a great episode!

I was thinking of the fuel pump and how hard its working... Idk if that has any effect on things at all though...

It is not good for the fuel pump to run the tank dry. The fuel pump is in the gas tank and relies on the gas to keep cool. Running it dry can shorten the life of the pump.

I just bought a 2008 Nissan Altima 2.5S sedan about 2 weeks ago from a Mercedes-Benz dealership by my work. I work at Audi and we are all in the same company so I got an employee discount. But previously I had a 2003 Altima and as of right now it seems that my older one was giving me better gas mileage. The 2003 gave me roughly about 420 miles until tank was empty and my 08 has a little more than a 1/4 of a tank with not even 300 miles on the gas tank.

Is there something wrong with my car?
How many miles does a full tank usually give you in a 2008?

Basically I want to know if Im going to get better mileage, once I fill up the tank at about within 20 miles it reads almost at 7/8!

HELP I WANT TO KNOW IF THIS IS NORMAL!!
