Most of the factory extended warranties can be purchased up to the end of the bumper to bumper because they don't actually kick in until then except for some instances of roadside assistance and such.
A lot of the dealers push the EW as it is a money maker at the initial purchase. The only advantage of buying it at time of purchase is locking in the purchase price which is sure to go up as the months go by. Usually you have anywhere up to a year to get the original price they quote then it will probably go up.
Be sure and shop around on the internet as you can save a bundle and get the same factory warranty from Nissan a lot cheaper there.
I don't trust most aftermarket extended warranties as they have a lot of disclaimers in them that can bite you in the butt.
