So I've been trying to improve my gas mileage by driving in D instead of my usual DS mode and have actually found that gas mileage is somewhat better (3mpg) in DS mode than it is in D. This is probably because I drive fairly agressively and I don't need to push the accelerator pedal as much to gear down in DS mode. At least that's my theory. Interesting find anyway.

Strange. hm. I can't really compare because I am on ds 99% of the time.

I love the DS mode, but was trying to minimize it's use to get better gas mileage only to find out that the mileage was worse. I guess if you drive aggressively, there's no way to decrease mpg :-). But it's still interesting to me that the mileage is better in DS mode. I'd love to have a mode somewhere between DS and D. I find D too slow to up and down shift for my liking, but I find the DS mode sometimes holds the gear for a little longer than I would if it was a manual, and it's a little more difficult to drive the car slowly when you want to because your wife or kid is in the car with you.

no clue , but i KNOW that its probally OVERDRIVE gear, unless theres an overdrive button ...

Honda accords\civics have D4 = OverDrive .. and D3= power gears for power shifting .. no OVERDRIVE

hope some of this helps and for people who dont know what OD is ..

For our cars.. it kicks the car into 5th gear (OVERDRIVE) once you get to 40-50 MPH , off OD, the car doesnt shift early, but it holds the gear longer for more power
