I recently aquired my mom's 89 240sx and it hasn't been drive in about a year and a half. I have temp tags on her, but I still have to go pass the emissions test (which she has failed before, the reason for the year and a half.) I have replaced the O2 sensor, and the plugs are burning very nice. The exhaust should probably be replaced (very rusty and the muffler has a hole in it.) I have seafoamed it as well, we all got a good laugh out of the cloud that rolled through my neighborhood. What else could improve my chances of passing? I really want to get her back on the road for good.

My other question was about gas mileage. I got about 95 city miles on a third of a tank. Is that about right? I don't know.

Like I said, she's not in the best of condition. Let me see, that's about 285 miles on a full tank. How could I check if the cat is still good or not?

285 miles on a tank is good.i get about 210 miles per 12.5 gallons of gas in the city. 300+ on open highway.

are the plugs and o2 sensor still ok after seafoaming or did you change those after?

do you have the emmisions slip from when it failed, that will tell you the proboble problem areas. if you find that slip, post the results and numbers

I don't have the old slip, but I'm going to go over on monday to attempt to get it tested. It won't cost me anything unless I pass or fail two more times. I seafoamed it and then checked the plugs and replaced the O2 sensor. The ECM (I don't know if that's the right name) said 55 once the engine warmed up, which I assume means all is well. If I fail, I'll post the results.
