Hey guys,

I've been lurking/occasionally posting for a while now. I had a red top sr before that I rebuilt to OEM spec, then sold it. Now I'm missing boost pretty badly (I have a '98 328is) and want to return to the Nissans. I plan to build a red top again, and find a nicer s14 shell to drop it in.

I'm looking for 300-350whp and although I want it to be reliable I don't want to drop several thousand $$ into the motor if it doesn't need that much. Can I get away with just a stock rebuild and metal headgasket? Maybe ACL bearings and a few other upgraded parts, but I'd like to avoid buying a set of forged pistons if its not necessary. Also, how's the HX35 for this power range? I can probably get my hands on one [rebuilt] for a couple hundred bucks.

Thanks,Chris

HX35 isn't the greatest turbo for this application. S15 t28 can get you to about 300rwhp with a PowerFC or other stand-alone ecu. If you want more power while still having amazing response, GT2871 or GT28RS still with a tune obviously. For either of them you will need upgraded injectors and some mild cams won't hurt.

I have stock internals and am around 315 ish whp. Pulsar gti-r turbo, 550's (not 100% sure, they are sti injectors and thats what i thought they were tested at), freddy intake manifold, z32 maf, megan engine back exhaust, fmic, safc-2 with wide band, pulleys, and aftermarket rad with electric fans. Im running around 17-18lbs right now, but just bought a peakboost mani and hope to get a hy35 and see maybe 350-375whp in the near future. Good luck, hope this helps.

O also if you do end up going with the hx35 check these guys out: http://www.g-s-racing.com/products.html

So 650cc's would be a good choice for this range?

Also, nice find fabrisuzu, looks sweet.

The block with a fresh rebuild "if done right" and was taken to a good machine shop to get honed and crank polished will hold your power numbers daily.

550cc's with a gt28rs and a rom tune will give you that number with great boost response and maybe do stage 1 cams. Stay with stock intake manifold
