yokota180sx is from Tokyo. From what I hear 180s and such are really cheap over there. Good luck if you do decide to move and post up some pictures!

Just a few questions for you...

1. Are you in the military?

2. Are you in college and planning to do a study abroad program?

3. Are you married to a Japanese national that is willing to sponsor you?

4. Do you have a minimum 4 year college degree from a major university?

If you answered no to any/all of these questions, how do you intend to move to Japan?

For one, you can't buy a car without a Japanese drivers license, can't get a Japanese drivers license unless you are a registered alien in Japan, can't be a resident alien in Japan unless you have an address (apt or home), oh, and there is the whole sha-ken thing, getting a parking space before you buy a car (see having a place to live comment).

How do you plan on getting a job legally without a sponsor? Most companies will sponsor 4yr degree holders, but without one, nope...not happenin.

Guys, I want everyone to make sure you all understand this.

YOU CANNOT JUST UP AND MOVE HERE WITHOUT MAKING SURE YOU KNOW WHAT YOU ARE GETTING INTO.

I am not saying that you shouldn't come here, I just want you to know that if you can't answer yes to any of the 4 questions above, you can't legally make residence in Japan.

The only reason I am here is because I am married to a Japanese national, and she still has to sponsor me. I am looking at anotherr 5 years minimum before I can even apply for my prermanent residence visa.

Just be sure you have a heads up on what's going on before you head over here.

Cars are pretty cheap, around $5k is average price you'll see on lots. If you buy them off of military stationed there who are leaving soon then you can get crazy deals like $500 and so on. You're better off trying to get a DoD or contracted job out there to be honest. Check around before you just up and fly over there, good luck.

If you buy a car off of someone who is stationed on a base, or leaving, you have to de-reg, then re-register it with normal plates, unless you are going to be working on base.

Then you also have to get an official sha-ken inspection, which is a minimum of $1000. It's a big old hassle to get all that done, even to save a few bucks, but you still have to have the other stuff done before you can purchace a car.

That really depends on the type of car it is. I don't know all the ins and outs, even though I am former military, but I don't think it makes it any easier to get certian cars in.
