Well I know I bought it for driving, but I was hoping to baby it. With this new job I'm probably going to be putting about 20K a year on it - so about 100K in 5 years...soul_hfk wrote:i wouldnt sell it cause of that but if your lookin to save money on gas get a Chevrolet Aveo5
Well, I ran out and took a look at the computer and this is what it said:gwoods wrote:What kind of milage are you getting. I beat the crap out of my car daily and am averaging 20 mpg? Took a trip and got 25 mpg including some 110 mph + racing with a vette and boxster?
Unless you put money down its hard to break even until the car is about 3 years old. Thats why I always trade at 3 years around 50k miles.

I think you will get a sinking feeling in your stomach that you made a mistake?spacy9 wrote:I started a new job a couple of months ago that requires a LOT of driving now. Now I love cruising around in my G but I think I'm just going to rack up the miles on it way too quick. Seems like a waste to me to rack up the miles this quick on the car.... I'm kind of torn right now cause I love it but it just doesn't seem practical - something with better gas milage would be more practicle
So anyway here is what I have:
2007 G35X with 6200 miles
Platinum Graphite / Stone Leather / Washi Aluminum
I has all the toys:
Technology package
Premium package
Navigation package
The rims are 20x8.5 Zinik Z18 Minardi's. Got them from Tirerack.com with some Pirelli PZero Nero M&S 245/35ZR20 with TPMS- about 6000 miles on these - about $3100 for these with the TPMS sensors.
I have the original tires/rims with about 200 miles on them and the TPMS sensors.
Clear bra on front, hood, and mirrors.
Splash guards
All weather Infiniti floor mats with the originals never used in the trunk.
Cargo net (yep I'm pushing it now )
I bought a car wash membership so it is cleaned at least one a week and the wheels polished at the same time.
Garage kept and needless to say babied
So what do you think I could get? Any offers ?

The correct and most accurate way to calculate MPG is as follows:spacy9 wrote:
Well, I ran out and took a look at the computer and this is what it said:
MPG: 16.4MPH: 30.2
So for over 6200 miles I've averaged only 16.4 MPG!
Maybe there is something wrong there? When I fill up the Miles till empty has never been over 304 sitting at the pump after filling up. That seems low, I thought it should be 350 or so...
As for breaking even it is paid for but I would lose money....
I'll give that a try for a couple of tanks and see where that gets me, 16.4 seems awfully low to me so hopefully it will show better numbers this way.telcoman wrote:
The correct and most accurate way to calculate MPG is as follows:
1- Fill tank & add just a little after the pump clicks off to round off to nearest dollar.
2 Set mileage odometer to zero
3- Drive till the fuel warning light comes on. At this point you will have 3 to 4 gallons left in the tank.
4- Repeat number 1
5- Divide the number of gallons into the number of miles traveled. ie 400 miles divided by 17 gallons =23.529411 miles per gallon.
6- Reset odometer to zero and repeat steps 1 to 5
I keep a cheap calculator in my glove compartment along with a document that I created on my computer to record every fillup. My best mileage so far was 28.83 MPG on a tank of gas on a trip from NJ to Florida. I usually get 23.5 to 24.5 MPG
Keep in mind that there is a considerable difference in MPG between a 5 speed automatic AWD and a 6 speed manual G35.

It's looking like I would take a 7K hit for having it 8 months! So selling it doesn't seem to make much sense. Any money I'd save in gas on the new car I would have lost getting rid of this one - and I LOVE this oneqg35 wrote:I bought my 07 G35x to PUT 35-40k year on it. If you spend that much time in your car....you gotta love your car.
If you sell it now, you're going to take a big hit....20% hit on a trade minimum, and they don't care how much you spent on wheels/tires etc...
If you only lose 5-6k beteeen tires/rims and 1st year depreciation (thats low) it equates to $500 month for 1 year. Thats alot of fuel. Keep it 2-3 years so balance on loan is much less (interest is all front end loaded) then if you have to get rid of it. If you don't have a loan your still going to take that hit...you just spent it in cash.
20k per year isn't so bad...3 yrs out thats 60k....most dealerships won't even dudect for that mileage.
Keep it for 2-3 then revisit.
Good luck
I was a network engineer for a mortgage company (we all know how good they are doing right now ). Drove about 15 mile round trip every day. Now I work as a network consultant and drive somewhere between 50 - 200 miles a day depending on which customer I'm going too. I don't take anyone to lunch, but it's still nice when they see the Gabdoman wrote:I know how you feel - you hate to kill a cream puff. Having to park in bad places and putting tons of mileage on it. It sucks.
It's much more economical to purchase a low cost vehicle that gets good gas mileage. Did you take a sales job or are you planning to take people to lunch? If so, you will have to have a decent car and it's always best to drive an American car (for a sales job). There are several low cost cars to choose from. If you will be driving for other reasons, by a late model honda accord or civic and keep your G. You will save on insurance (putting the G as a "weekend" car), gas and your pocketbook as you will take a hit trying to sell the G.
Good job guys!!!!soul_hfk wrote:1 more X saved
For what it's worth... I drive in town primarily, and have had my '04 for about a year and a half. I routinely get 13-14 mpg. The one exception was a trip taken up the coast, where I averaged about 23 mpg. You're not doing bad at 16+. I know that I could do far better with a Prius... but I would not have anywhere NEAR the fun!!spacy9 wrote:Oh, yeah, thanks to everyone for talking me out of selling it
