Okay guys, I finally finished up my hardbody and have noticed that this thing is slower then all hell! I have the Z24 motor, and i understand that this thing is not going to be fast, but It takes me a LONG time to get up to speed.

Also, I cannot get the truck to do over 65 on the interstate. Obviously this could be a problem because i don't like pissing people off, and the freeway makes for faster travel times.

Now i noticed that i have a cracked header (I just found this out today) So could this be the problem?

How are the pacesetter headers? I figured I might as well go 4-2-1 since I'll be replacing it anyways.

But is the top speed normal? Or do i have a problem?

That top speed is not normal, I had a Z22 that went faster than that. So even if you down shift it won't pick up any extra speed? 5spd or auto?

cracked headers might cause a little power loss, but it wouldn't be that big. you've got another problem. i'll think on it.

If i really wind the piss out of it in 3rd/4th i can get abit more out of it, but not much.

I don't like beatin on her though.

The header is cracked and the exhaust leaks in a spot i think.

5 speed

Look for vacuum leaks. Get a can of carb cleaner and, with the engine running, start spraying around vacuum lines and fittings. If the idle changes, you found a leak.

Other things you can do are simple tuneup items if you haven't done them....plugs, wires, cap, rotor. Run some fuel injector cleaner through it, or better yet, give it a full seafoam treatment.

The z24 is no powerhouse, but on flat road, you shouldn't have too much trouble getting up past 80.

Wow, a longbed! You don't see many of those.

Here's soemthing else to think about. That truck probably came stock with 235/75/15 tires, and it looks like now you have at least a set of 31s on there.

Let's say the new tires are 15% taller than stock. That means when your speedo reads 65, you're really going about 73ish.

Some of the early hardbodies only had 4.10 gearing, which is pretty tall considering the low HP, tire size, and truck weight. You can find out your gearing if you can find the manufacturers tag (either underhood or in the door jamb) with the axle code.

With 4.10 gears and 31s, I could see why the truck would struggle at speed.

If you haven't done the tuneup, though, that certainly won't hurt anything.

A link with a good how to on seafoaming the truck is here:

yea, that picture says a lot. I don't mean to downtalk our awesome nissan 4 cylinders. But it's a bit tough for them to crank big tires. Aside from the tuneup stuff and all that. You might look into getting some lower gearing if you're looking at using that for off-road stuff. I believe http://www.4x4parts.com carries different gears for hardbodies.

Grab a GPS, check your speed that way. I have a gps on my cellphone and after 195k miles, my truck speedo is dead on.

After driving through a puddle and replacing all sorts of ****...

I can now get the truck up to 75! It takes a bit, but she does it no problem!

I'll try the GPS trick soon with my gfs gps...just to see where I am actually at.

i have a similar problem, mine won´t cruise over 65mph. I can get it up to 80, but i goes back down when the over drive kicks in(auto). mine either has a sensor messed up or the timeing chain is loose.
