Wasn't getting much feedback(no feedback) from neone in the classic Z forum so here I am. I have been presented with the oportunity to pick up a 72 240z at what i thought was a reasonable price...... The ad said that it is in good condition and that he wants $1,000 for it. I called him and he said that it did need some interior and exterior work, The carbuerator leaks and the gas tank is rusted out. Also the hatch is rusted through in a couple areas...............I know ....I am going to look at it Wensday and I will get some pics then. but for the time being what do you guys think?

If it runs ok and it's not an auto, I would buy it myself. Idk though, it all depends on what you want to do with the car. A new gas tank won't be much, you could get a newer carburetor or swap in a fuel injected motor, and the hatch will just require some tlc.

you posted int he classic setion and got no responce ....withing an hour so you posted elsewhere and someone moved ti back to classic making it a double post and I deleted the other

anyhow, rust is the number one killer, if the hatch is rusted most likely so are the fram rails, floor pans, wheel arches, rocker panels, spare tireweall and just about anything else made of metal, these things are magnets for rust, and if you see a little I gurentee there is at least 4 times that much you don't see, carbs leak and replacement gastank are no biggie, the motors are a dime a dozen and last forever, it's all abvout buying a solid chassis, if it's a solid chassis it's worth the price, if it's a rust bucket, save yourself a lot of time and money and pay more for a better chassis,

i agree with evildy... a cleaner chassis will be more expensive initially but all that rust repair work would cost thousands, unless you know how to do it your self. than by all means buy it. i went through the same hassle when i bought my s30. it was alot of work, alot of time, and alot of money, but i love every moment learning how to restore a car. if your like me than go buy it. but if your looking for a quick project, rusty datsun are not what you want to go with. hope this helps von
