I have a 1997 nissan pickup 2.4 engine - 5 speed. The check engine light was on,the code showed - swirl switch and midstream oxygen sensor. After a lot of searching, discovered a hole in a vacuum hose. Cleared the computer and the check engine light is out. My question is should I replace the midstream oxygen sensor or is there a possibility the sensor is good and the reading is related to the swirl switch. Anyone have luck with universal sensors - or is OEM the best way to go.

I have had good luck with both aftermarket and oem. If you fixed a vac leak and clear the codes I would drive it awhile and see if it comes back. If it does then replace it.

Thank you for the response. Thats what I was planning on doing,I was looking for some input to help me decide which direction to take. My concern with the after market sensors is once you splice the wires and install ends, and the sensor goes south, will the vendor exchange or refund your money. The final issue (I HOPE) the truck needs a set of shocks. I am watching for a auto center to have them on sale plus a fixed price on labor to install them. I replaced a leaf spring, and I sprayed the shock with penetrating oil and left it sit overnight, the nut came off alright but the shock is froze on the bolt.

I unplugged my downstream sensor and left it that way.

I checked my fuel mileage - 20 mpg - The check engine light is out,so I am going to wait and see how this plays out. I priced out shocks and labor, My guess is that most shops have replaced Nissan truck shocks at some point in time. The price range for labor was from - $80 to $160 The lowest price for parts and labor was $312. So I am in the market for a set of shocks and I will install them myself.
