180 Customs is a a shop by me who offers this service for tailights. im not advertising for them but i am using their pics and thinking about doing this myself. I think it looks great and i like the suddel effect of it. The murdered out black tails look is too ricey in my opinion and by keeping some red i feel it accentuates the body lines of our coupes.

taken from 180:
"What is it?
What this does is tame the redness of your taillight to minimum level while still retaining FULL light out put, giving you ZERO issues from the five-o.

The stock taillight bezel is coated in chrome, covered it by a red lens making the taillight very bright and vibrant. What we do is open up the taillights and smoke out the chrome bezels, and reassemble the taillight to give you a very STEALTH look while keeping the cops off your back."

So what im wondering is has anyone baked open the tailights before? im going to buy an extra tailight to experiment but first i would like to hear if anyone has done this successfully and how they went about it.

I plan on painting the inside black insead of just smoking it out

180 custom is a kid names Igor who owns a small local forum...

Not a shop, AFAIK they have no legitimate place of business or license

He ruined my headlights and got me a replacement a yr later.

I have no hard feelings against him, and hes on my facebook friends list... but I would not suggest being the guinea pig on this one.

If I did it, I'd want it done to the red LED set off ebay. No way I'd do it to stockers.

I mean it looks great, but it's kind of false advertising. It's just as illegal as putting a film or spray paint on the outside of your taillight lenses.

What?

They just spray the inside chrome black

You can't change the reflective parts of a taillight. When you tint the outside of the taillights with paint or films, you are hiding the reflective portion of the taillight. When this guy is spray painting the inside of the taillight, he is hiding the reflective portion of the taillight. That's the whole law about taillight tints.. it's not the fact that you made them a darker color that's illegal, it's that you've reduced the visibility of reflective nature of the taillight. That's what I've been told anyhow.

^This. Try and find some pics of lights hes done that are NOT LEDs. If you spray up the stockers you will absolutely kill the light output. I dont think LEDs even use a bit of reflective material to increase the light output so its not hurting anything there. If you spray the stock filament bulb housing you would be in trouble. Think of spraying your stock filament headlights completely black. No bueno...
