Well, tonight's experience was rather interesting.
For Spilk's 85 Maxima, we needed a new fuel pump. Junkyards didnt have the right one, NAPA wanted an arm leg and left nut, maybe a right kidney for tax. At the neighborhood gas station is a line of abandoned cars, some of them stripped, including an 87 Maxima with no plates and no starter, some 30 year old forks, a Hyundai Scoupe with missing windows (actually half of them had smashed windows). Asked the guy at the gas station who owned the Maxima, he said he hadnt a clue who owned those cars. They just were left there. We tried for weeks to get a hold of the owner of the Max to no avail.
So tonight, we embarked on an adventure, armed with tools, a flash light, and quick reflexes. We hopped into my Q and headed down to the gas station. I went in, asked again about the Maxima and other cars (and bought some ice cream), and the guy still had no information on them. They were just left there for months.
This Maxima was missing door panels, a fender, radio, and more. Even the door stickers were gone. We had to do a CarFax to find the year of it. The windshield was cracked, and I was surprised the darn thing still had wheels and seats.
I shined the flashlight as Spilk went in and pulled out the rear seat, removed some wires, and proceeded to remove the fuel pump. While there, we got a starter and the rear bottom seat cushion. It took about 15 minutes, and we got the hell out of there.
I dont think we broke any laws, the guy at the gas station didnt care, but it felt criminal anyway!
We got home, plugged in the pump (which was pretty clean) and it sounded good.
