Ok, im not trying to down midas or anything-my friend works there.

But guys, my friend and i walked into the place today. he asked how much it would cost to install his headers on his lt1 camaro. the guy said its completely illegal, and theres no way in hell they could break their polocy to do it. then i asked how much it would be to put an exaust together for me if i bought a muffler and then used their piping ect. he told me once again its 100% illegal and that 2 state cops just came in last week and said that the place could get fined or sumthin to put these things on. then he goes and tries to sell me a replacement system for 400 bucks. ARE YOU KIDDING ME. i can get a nice catback for that much. how can he replace my system and have it be legal but cant use their piping and my muffler. I give up on these laws. places aroound town will do it under the table.

Thanx for the warning about exausts Midas, but i could give two s***s

I've gotten all my exhaust work done at smaller local shops. The bigger shops always charged more, and actually their quality was less than that I have experienced with the other shops I use

A lof of the bigger chain places have liability issues if you try to get them to install parts that they don't supply. Say those headers crack after a few thousand miles, Midas could get sued for installing them incorrecly even though it may have been a bad set of headers. I tired to get a Spitfire and Jiffylube to change my gear oil my supplied syncromech, they wouldn't do it due to liability.

Technically (in a lot of states: IL) it is illegal to install a muffler system that is louder than what is existing...but what is to say that an old system with a rust hole in it isn't louder than your catback? Go to a smaller shop, your paying for mostly labor and there my be no warrantee. Most shops are kewl about their work, so say you break a hanger, they will weld it back on for you.

I got my piping w/ my supplied magnaflow installed at Midas... They didnt seem to care at all. They actually offred to build me a catback exhaust (2.25) when I only wanted the muffler put on.

Its true about bigger chains dont want to install supplied parts like AAMCO... I called them and asked them if they would install my clutch (ACT) and they said no... Fcuk them.. seriously. Go to a local shop and they would gladly do it for you.

definately go for the small shops. i bought the tension rod bushings from NISMO and went to 3 chain places to install. One of them (Les Schwab) not only said they couldn't but he offered to order the exact same bushings i had and quoted $325 installed!!!!!

PepBoys has always worked with me too on installing 3rd party parts, give them a try.

aaa pepboys... i dont know about the pepboys at your place but... when I took my camry for an alignment, they said that i should change that transmission fluid and i said no. They tried to make me do it and i kept saying no.

A day later my transmission fluid was leaking and I jacked up the car and chekced. The bolts that were holding the transmission fluid pan was ALL LOOSE!!!!

Those bastards... never going back to pepboys after that.
