Quite a bit of news, although I don't really see how it's going to benefit them, other than gaining the current Skype users. I'm guessing that they're hoping to offer something like Apples Facetime, that will work on all Windows based devices. Smart purchase, seeing as Google and Facebook both were in on the bidding war as well.

Although, it seems like most anything Microsoft acquires, dies in good time.

Yep, thank God for Google Voice and Google Talk(for video chat), if that weren't in place I would probably be a lot more upset that Microsoft bought Skype.

Yep, now that I have heard you will be charged for Skype, Microsoft gets right in on that money making idea.

I sure hope this doesn't get swallowed up by the putrid shartstain that is Windows Live.

I'm glad Facebook didn't end up buying Skype, though. I'd have to stop using it if they did.

Lets not go and act like Skype is awesome and everything... I use it daily and it's call phone feature is buggy as hell.

The only times I ever used Skype was to talk to my ex when we were together and not in the same town. Never liked it. I think it's probably going to go the way of the fax machine when something better comes along.

Why'd they pay 8.5 billion? They could have just downloaded it for free...
