I have not tried either, so cannot comment with personal experience. But, the Pilot PS2 is an outstanding tire apparently. Superior than the Pilot Sport, according to people who have tried both of them, and whose opinions I trust.
Yes, Michelin's are pricey in general, but you do get what you pay for. Of course, the gains may not be directly proportional to a given price difference to another tire brand and model.
Also, not all of their tires are world-class (for example, I think their MXM4 is over-rated, but not a bad, over-priced tire like the Goodyear RS-A), but there is no question that Michelin probably makes the best tires in the industry overall ... given their conservativeness of load index ratings and their quality control systems, etc.
The Tire Rack tests are excellent, but you have to keep the outcomes in proper perspective. They generally use 17" tires, on a smaller car (usually a BMW 3 series). So, the results may not be fully applicable to the larger tires that we use on the M. However, it is a good basic indicator that you can work from!
