So I had been dealing with my air system sounding ridiculously loud and vibrating the car for a while. I finally got it in for repairs today at the dealership. They had to give me a rental so they could take the dash apart to find the problem.

Apparently somehow Mice had gotten into the air system and built a nest. It jammed the blowers and killed the Air system. Now I am without my Rogue for at least 2 - 3 days. Luckily Nissan is paying for it and the dealer gave me a rental. They gave me a Sentra but I really dont like it.

Has anyone in their past ever have animals nest in their engines? I thought that only happened to vehicles that dont get used. I drive my rogue every day!

I had this same problem in my Nissan Alitma. I was getting a dead animal smell in mine and some minor noise. I ended up taking the in cabin filter out and there was a dead mouse and a small mouse nest. At least Nissan is fixing it for free.

Is there any ways to prevent it from happening again?

ha ha at the Morris the cat!

My mother has a Toyota Sienna minivan. She drives it regularly in the summer, but sparingly in the winter. Somehow some mice figured out how to make a home in the intake system. Not sure how, but they chewed through some wiring that was vital. In order to replace the sensor and parts necessary, they had to remove the entire intake manifold. Long story short.. they spent over $500 to repair the vehicle thanks to some stupid mice. The dealership wouldn't warranty anything since it wasn't a normal malfunction.

They have many mousetraps in the garage now!

But see thats the thing... I have driven my rogue every day since I bought it! I thought animals only went into cars that have sat for long periods of time

Darned vermin! About 7 years ago I started up my Ford F250 PU to head for the airport. I only got about 100 yards before the cab quickly filled up with white smoke. I quickly pulled over, turned off the motor and lifted the hood. I sure didn't see anything wrong.

I figured the damage was done and I had to catch my flight so I drove back to the house and parked the truck a good distance away from my house, shop, and barn. I called my neighbors and asked them to call me if my truck burned up. I started up my car and made my trip.

Upon returning I took the PU into the shop. As it turned out a mouse had built a nest under the hood. I thought it only happened to vehicles that sat too, but I'd driven the PU just the night before the fire. Luckily there was no damage other than bar b qued mouse.

More recently we had chipmunks in the garage and they really tore up the wiring on my husbands Honda Pilot. We didn't get off so cheap that time. We now keep mouse traps in the garage.

Hello, new poster here.

We got mice/rats nest in one of our cars that gets used everyday. The mice chewed on the gas line. The dealer fixed it. The dealer said this is due to food/crumbs that accumulated under the seat. They took the seat out and cleaned it.

The dealer told us that insurance will cover this. The insurance did cover it, so we only paid our deductible.

I am new to this site. I brought my 2010 Rogue to the dealership after the heater began making an awful noise (the car actually shook with the vibration). They told me it was mice, which I am having a difficult time believing since I drive this car a lot every day. In fact, it was fine one day and only sat in my driveway for a few hours before I drove it again and discovered this issue. The dealership told me over the phone before looking at it that it was mice. I told them that it was unlikely and brought it in for them to check. They told me after two hours that it was and when I asked to see what they foun, showed me a few handfuls of insulation (no leaves or other debris). Anyway, the blower still makes the noise and they are telling me that they need me to leave the car with them for a full day (at $100 / hr labor) and that the blower may also need to be replaced - all at my cost! I spoke with a supervisor from 1-800-NISSAN-1 who also told me that this is not covered by NISSAN. I notice quite a few posts about this same complaint - with some repairs covered by NISSAN. If anyone can give me more info that would help such as who you spoke with that covered the repairs, I would greatly appreciate it. I cannot afford to fix this and as it is getting very cold, will not be able to drive this vehicle much longer!

Thank you very much!!!

Did they give you a quote on how much it will be to replace. If you don't get anywhere with Nissan you can always file a claim under your comprehensive auto insurance. If it will only cost a little more than your deductible your better off not filing because your rates may go up if you do. You could also try another dealer and see if they would get it covered for you under warranty. The people on here that have gotten this covered by Nissan have been extremely lucky IMO. It is not really Nissan's fault that Mice found there way into the car.

In my opinion, I really think this is a defect where Nissan has not properly covered a certain area in the Rogue. A design flaw per se.

I mean, my question to anybody in here. How the heck does a mouse get in the air system? If something THAT big could get in, then you know for dang sure pollutants, dirt, debris, dust, and all sort of floating garbage is finding the same way in don't you think?

Common Sense something is not right.

A mouse nest? I kinda find that as pretty big dirt and debris finding its way into an air system. Nissan should have place a mesh guard on whatever entry these rodents are coming in but even that won't stop dust and dirt.

For over 3 years I have read posts about mice nests in the Rogues vent system. When I open the hood and look at the air intake infront of the wipers the small little boxes are way to small for a mouse to fit through. Is it possible the the mice are getting inside the cars and climbing into the floor vents. Or is it possible that they climb in through the water drainage holes.
