It appears that mice may have eaten some wiring in my ‘97 Q-45. We discovered the nest and found the following (along with vegetable matter): a 3” piece of wire, white with remnants of a black wrapping, portions of what appears to be a hollow plastic tube with a label on one end that says “L” and another portion that carried the “R”. The car runs fine and there are no warning lights lit. I have pictures but I haven’t figured out how to post them to this forum. Does what I have described sound like something that came from my car? The reason I ask, is that mice did eat wiring in my wife’s Explorer which cost over $500 to diagnose and replace and that it is possible the wiring remnants that I found in my car came from the Explorer. I would like to be able to be somewhat sure that the wire etc. came from my car before I invest in having a local garage start looking. The nearest Infiniti dealer is an 80 mile round trip away and their prices are unbelievable. Any information and/or suggestions will be appreciated.

The owner of a Q is supposed to have a family income of $200,000 to buy, roughly what the $100-$125 per hour dealer rate is.QX56's It will target a customer with an average household income of over $350,000, an average age of 48 and children of high school age.Used or stretched buyers think this is excessive yet pay doctors/dentist/plumbers/electricans more.

Employer paid automobile service insurance policies might be the wave of the future.

Kidding!

Most/all wires under the plenum would set a check engine light. on OBD2.

I am pretty sure your knock sensor cable is distroyed. I had that happen to my car (97 Q 45t) last year Nov. In fact, several people on this forum had this happened to them. Do a search and you will find the detail description on and some pics needed to fix your car. The "R" and "L" you found refers to the right and left knock sensor.

Here's what you have to do:Remove enginer coverDrain your radiatorRemove belts and fanRemove alternatorDisconnect the throttle cable as well.Remove/disconnect some cables and hoses for spaceYou should be able to access your ks and cable now.

On the other end of the ks cable, be sure to remove the peice of metal that lifts up the engine on the rear of the engine. The hardest part of this job is to figure out how to disconnect the cables.

007Good luck and post here if you have any other questions.

RODENTS are rats!

My Lexus LX 450 is kept at my NM summer home which is at 7000' (hoprefully, soon to be year round home, SC having been overrun by damn Yankees, once again, if Sherman was not enough!). Getting out there last May, the a/c had this gawd awful, dead rat smell! After $150 tear out of blower motor, and removal of several rather dried carcasses, all was fine! Got out there a few weeks ago for short visit, and, blower motor was very noisy. I had bought a WSM, so took motor out myself, and removed lots of nest building material. I now keep rat posion under the hood of this vehicle, and put mesh wire over a/c air intakes. Seems to work.

My beloved Q45 is at El Paso airport motel, along with lots of Mexican plated vehicles, and I have rat poison under its hood, also. I hope the Q is still there when I get back and not across the river! UNLESS YOU LIVE OUT IN THE SOUTHWEST, YOU REALLY CANNOT APPRECIATE THE ROAD EATING CAPABILITIES OF THE MIGHTY Q!

People who keep animal food in garage or fail to join their neighbors on the weekend rat patrol excursion.............also most wiring insulation is now biodegradable and made from big mac [fast food] garbage.

Ever smelled the insulation? The engineer who thought of that got a big bonus from the replacement parts division.
