When is the USA going to stop looking stupid to the rest of the world and start using the metric system. Units that make sense and are compatible with a x10^Y at the end of them. Who needs 23.2441 units equals 1 greater unit...that English stuff sucks! My tool set is in metric, my Jim Beam is in metric, my speedometer is metric ready, I'm metric ready, and if you're not metric ready then apparently you haven't seen metric yet because it's easier to understand then English. All we have to do is change road signs and Milk containers and we'll be 90% there.Phew, I feel better now. Now hand me that 9/16th socket...damn chevy.

The last I heard, the United States was NEVER going to convert. England I believe is the only other country besides us that still measures distance and speed in miles, but most everything else is metric. When I was over there a couple of years ago, I talked about it with someone and they told me that they were waiting for us to convert before they did the rest of the way (?). It was there that I heard that it looks like the US will never do it.

Its such a waste of money for the US too, when we export anything, we convert it to metric before it gets shipped, then when stuff comes in, it get converted to tons, lbs, ect.

The US forces a lot of things on other countries, and the England thing is just one small example. I don't know jack about metric, but I wanted it changed too.

no doubt! easy.. understandable.. just plain seems the right way.."hmmm. this 13mm socket is too small...damn.. ahh, its a 14mm! sweet"

uhh..who the fck thought up this??"damn... this 3/4" is too small.. *thinks* do i use a 5/8?? wait.. that is more than half too.... s***.. that means I should use a 7/16?? arg.... no that is less than half....hmmm"now who the hell does that make sense too???

I installed the HUD cluster in my 91, and set it to metric... was awesome to see me going 178km/h when the limiter kicked in :)

10based math is just so friggen easy..how could we go wrong??

i'm willing to bet 60% of the bolts and nuts on my J30 are 10mm, it's awesome! Didn't have a 15mm last night to pull off my starter, some how a 9/16 worked... It's also a pain to find metric tool kits. They're all in English. Go to sears some time, the almighty tool store for so many decades and look for metric anything...can't find it can ya.

WHAT? I assure you that every metric tool I use is a Craftsman, except for my gearwrenches. Heck, Sears even sells sets on Ebay. How many of us even know how much we weigh in Kg? No multiplying by 2.2! Metric is the better system, no doubt. But it's hard to mandate in a "free market". And the costs would/will be astronomical. Great for international trade, but don't ignore the domestic impact. It's hard to imagine explaining to the grandkids how the whole country used to measure things in a completely different way.

quite simply, people here know sae, and they are used to it... growing up as a muscle car kid, i was quick with the sae tool system, and still am... yes metric is easy, but i dont think sae is really any more comlicated... besides... our country knows MPH, change to metric and i garuntee you will want to shoot yourself after you get stuck behind ANOTHER person doing 35KPH!!i personaly dont think this country is in general, smart enough or open minded enough to convert. aside from cost factors to change everything over, you have to remember we are a socioty heavily set on tradition and old thought... i say keep america the odd ball out... it hasnt let us down yet... and its not like changing over to metric is gonna keep me from havin 2 sets of wrenchs and 4 sets of sockets!accept it... were stuck with sae-Pete "i'd rather be sleeping" S.

p.s. havin trouble with crapsman?! i know i did... cant afford snap-on? i know i cant! look into Kobalt (sold at Lowe's) made by snap-on... but cheaper! i love em!

"Now hand me that 9/16th socket...damn chevy"

depends on whitch bolt and witch car , damned 87-95 pickups were awful needed a 13mm for the at pan bolts and a 9/32 to get the injector rail clips off spent half my time jogging between metric and standard sets

humvees are worse , drivetrain is metric (mostly) rest of the truck is standard , nopthing like a derivative of the olds 350 diesel (GM 6.2)powereing a defense vehicle , tho im impressed with how the 4L80E's are holding up , only occasional 1-2 shift solenoid falures
