After doing some reading today. I came across some interesting info about using nitromethane. You can't mix nitro with your pump gas do to corrosive habits if the nitro, but you can mix it with methanol in your subinjection system. Everyone should know by now I'm a huge fan of subinjection..anything from propane to alcohol.

If mixed correctly, the nitro will yield 30-50 whp when injected. Of course that number can be increased exponentialliy with the addition of more methanol and tuning. But 30-50 is probably good enough for most. Especially when most of us will be adding alot of boost with the addition of methanol to begin with.

So the floor is open for suggestions and thoughts on the matter.

what causes the 30-50whp gain? is it the injection of it cooling the air temps making it more dense? is it being able to tune more aggresive? or is it jsut being able to run more boost on pump gas?

Is Nitro an aggressive burn? Are your combustion temps going to go up along with maybe having a rapid pressure spike?

From what I have read nitromethane has its own airsupply. Which is why they use it in spaceships and why tnt still works underwater.

Would it be possible to inject the mix using an alcohol injection? I am sure you would have to change the hoses, but would it be possible?

nitromethane (CH3NO2) works very much the same as regular nitrous oxide would. When it combusts within the cyl it donates free oxygen which can then be used to aid even more combustion. Because of this though, nitromethane use also results in higher temperatures within the engine... Unlike methanol which is used (among other things) to cool the charge

I was looking at using nitromethane also WD.. I kept falling over it every time I did searches to find sources for pure methanol and it definetly got me thinking. Youre right that it cant be simply added to a gas tank (because of its corrosive qualities, which is emphesised by the fact that fuel remains in the tank for semi-extended periods of time), but it can be mixed in with methanol (or just water) as another form of staged alochol injection.

Still, nitromethane is really really expensive. Prices I have found generally hover around $30-$50 for a single gallon, $350 for 15 gallons, or $795 for the hardcore 53 gallon drum. While it really does seem like a cool idea, its just not very cost effective when you compare it to regular methanol or even regular gas nitrous oxide.

Nitromethanol burns extremely extremely hot.

I would use nitrous oxide before considering nitro on a motor you might actually want to run for a while.

Now on a n/a KA24E ... heheehhe... I will do it one day.

I also do model RC (radio controlled) car racing. They run straight Methanol with a nitromethane mix - usually around 10-15 percent mix. It costs around 10-30 dollars a gallon, depending on the mix and concentration.

That fuel packs quite a punch - the engines run like diesels with a glow plug instead of a spark plug and with the small displacement i get around 1.2 hp @ 40000 RPM from a .12 cubic-inch engine.

Straight methanol with some lubricatve additives is around 10 dollars a gallon.

i run 15 percent mix which is around 15-18 a gallon. I've played around with mixing it into weed whacker and lawn mower engines and besides a smokey exhaust and lower max rpm i didn't notice anything different.

But im interested - lets see what others have to say!
