I just bought a 2001 Pathy SE 4wd 5spd. I noticed that one of the switches on the trans was unplugged (which I later found to be the reverse light switch). I plugged it back in and noticed when I shift into R, my gauges cluster goes out and I have no reverse lights...the 10A fuse labelled "METER" pops. If I change the fuse and unplug the switch then the dash is OK but I have no backup lights. Any help would be great....it's supposed to go in for a safety tomorrow. I also have the p1320 code with no misfire issues.

Do you by any chance have rust or corrosion issues, especially at the bulb? The fact that this only pops when you get in reverse, is odd. Do you have a relay for reverse?
Are the bulbs back there the correct wattage?

Any aftermarket wiring like audio, overhead fog lights etc?

Also, just for LOLs, could you remove the bulbs and try putting the trans in reverse to see if anything happens?

I removed a shotty trailer wire kit that tied in at the tail lamp and repaired the spliced wires correctly. Replaced both builds with oe replacements. No rust or corrosion at the sockets. No aftermarket crap wired in. I have 12v to the switch, and continuity at the switch when in reverse. But if I hook it back up...POP! I think it's possible the switch could have a short when closed. Otherwise there could be a bad spit in the wire back to the reverse lights. Not sure if there is a reverse light relay.

Problem solved! Found out that the yellow wire from the backup lamps to the plug on the reverse switch had a bad spot in it somewhere that I couldn't see. Ran a new wire from the lamp connectors to the plug. Thanks Christ for my multimeter...and automotive genius...lol :chuckle: Reverse lights work now...and no blown fuses or lack of instruments!! :dblthumb:
