My dad asked me this, and I have no clue so I figured I'd throw it to you guys.

He's got a new GTO, and wants to get some window tint installed on it next week. The problem is, the owners manual says in bold print DO NOT USE METALIC TINT because the radio antenna is part of the rear window and they claim it will mess up the signal.

I've never heard of that being a problem, and neither has the tint place. Do you guys know if there is any basis for that? Or is it just more manufacture BS (kinda like how they frown on aftermarket forced induction heh).

He really wants metalic tint since it dosn't turn purple over time like the cheap stuff. Any help would be appreciated.

Almost related...I read in Car and Driver that metallic tint (at top of windshield) can lessen the strength/accuracy of your radar detector. So its quite possible it can interfere with reception.I think Merecedes has had in-glass antennas for a while. Check out this forum...http://forums.mbworld.org/foru...id=38

slightly off topic:

metallic tint also affect's the EZpass tag/transmitters...

I have a metallic tint type bag to put it in when i don't have enuff $ left in my account to prevent the radio waves from being picked up by the EZpass toll booth receivers...
